The Palm Springs Chill are an independent baseball team based in Palm Springs, California. They are co-owned by the Palm Springs Power and play their home games at Palm Springs Stadium. Andrew Starke is the team president and Darrell Evans is the manager.

Team history

Arizona Winter League (2008-2009)

They were a member of the Arizona Winter League, a short-season instructional winter league affiliated with the Golden Baseball League in 2008 and 2009, making the playoffs and championship game both seasons, before losing to the Blythe Heat and Yuma Scorpions respectively.

California Winter League (2010)

The Chill ownership created a brand new winter league in 2010, the California Winter League, to offer more opportunities for aspiring players to flourish. They will be joined by the Coachella Valley Snowbirds, the Palm Desert Coyotes and the Canada A's. Former Major Leaguer and former Victoria Seals manager Darrell Evans was named commissioner of this new league. [1] [2] [3]

Mascot

Tundra is the official mascot of the Palm Springs Chill. During the 2012 California Winter League baseball season the Palm Springs Chill started to become very popular in the Palm Springs area. Due to the success of the Palm Springs Power college baseball team in the summer the revenue in the California Winter League was at an all-time high in 2012. The Palm Springs Chill are filled with Independent level players who usually have the same talent level as low minor league players. They have a roster full of signed players such as Jacob Taylor, Jimmy Waters, and Miles Walding who is an Arizona Diamondback minor league signed player, 29-year-old star outfielder Derrick Pyles who played for the New York Federals in 2011 after he finished college at Embry-Riddle University in Florida is also a big reason for the Chill success. The Chill are managed by Ricky Vanasselberg as of 2012. Ricky is also manager of the Grand Prairie Air Hogs who compete in the American Association of Independent Baseball which is Double A level baseball players and ex major league players trying to stay in the game as long as possible. The Chill usually are made up of former college baseball players with talent to sign professional contracts after the season. The team finished 13 and 6 during the 2012 California Winter League season and were California Winter League runner up finishers after losing to the Palm Springs Power 7 to 5 in the Championship game in front of 2,500 fans at Palm Springs Stadium.

The Vipers were champions of the Golden Baseball League in 2009, having defeated the Tucson Toros in the Championship Series.

They were owned by Diamond Sports & Entertainment, previous owners of the GBL and primary investors in the North American League. In November 2022, it was announced the Surf Dawgs franchise will be revived as part of a west coast expansion of the Federal Baseball League.

Palm Springs Stadium is a stadium in Palm Springs, California. It is primarily used for baseball. It used to be named Angels Stadium and was the home field of the Palm Springs Suns of the Western Baseball League in 1995 and 1996. Palm Springs Stadium is the home of the Palm Springs Power, of the collegiate summer Palm Springs Collegiate League. In 2018 and 2019, the stadium is the official home of the Palm Springs Collegiate League and the California Winter League (2010), also shared with Palm Springs High School baseball field. The stadium has a seating capacity of 5,185.

The Arizona Winter League was an independent instructional winter baseball league. Arizona Winter League games were all played at Desert Sun Stadium in Yuma, Arizona. The league was founded in 2007. It disbanded in 2013 due to parent league, the Golden Baseball League/North American League, folding, but was restarted in 2016, only to fold again following the 2018 season.

John Thomas Kotchman is an American professional baseball scout, coach and minor league manager. Since the 2014 season, he has been manager of the rookie-level affiliate of the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball, currently known as the Florida Complex League Red Sox. They joined the GBL on October 1, 2008. The Seals played their home games at Royal Athletic Park, a multipurpose stadium in Victoria which is also used for soccer, softball and football. On November 10, 2010, team owners Russ and Darren Parker announced that the team would be ceasing operations immediately after being unable to reach an agreement with the City of Victoria on the condition of the ballpark and the instability of the Golden Baseball League.

The Arizona Summer League (ASL) was a professional short-season instructional baseball league affiliated with the independent North American League (NAL). The league was announced on April 3, 2009, and founded in Yuma, Arizona by the now-defunct Golden Baseball League. Now headquartered in San Ramon, California, it is an independent baseball league that includes of four teams based out of different cities. All games are played at Desert Sun Stadium in Yuma, Arizona. The 2011 season ran from July 13 to August 8.

The Palm Desert Coyotes are an independent professional baseball team that is based in Palm Springs, California as a part of the California Winter League. They play their games in a short-season schedule from January to February at Palm Springs Stadium and at the nearby Palm Springs High School baseball field, along with the Palm Springs Chill, Canada A's and Coachella Valley Snowbirds and several other teams. The Coyotes didn't play in 2012 due to a team suspension of operations. They were replaced by the winter league version of the Palm Springs Power. The Coyotes returned in 2013.

The Southern California Collegiate Baseball League is a collegiate summer baseball league, formerly the SCCBA (Association). Founded in 2007, the SCCBL is a member of the National Baseball Congress. The SCCBL League Champion represents the league annually at the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kansas. The 2012 SCCBA champions are the Palm Springs POWER of Palm Springs, California, the most successful team to date, by defeating the East L.A. Dodgers. The Power was the Pacific Southwest Baseball League (PSWBL) champions in 2009.

The Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs is an independent professional baseball league headquartered in Houston, which operates in cities in desert mountain regions throughout California, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. The Henderson RoadRunners were an independent professional baseball team based out of Henderson, Nevada. They were members of the Western Division in the North American League and were scheduled to begin play in 2011 at Lied Field at Morse Stadium on the campus of the College of Southern Nevada in Henderson. But they would forgo their inaugural season as Lied Field will not be ready in time for the start of the season. The franchise folded in 2012 after failing to attract attention and secure new ownership. They would've been the second professional franchise to play in the Las Vegas area. The first is the Las Vegas 51s of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League.

The Fullerton Flyers were a professional baseball team based in Fullerton, California, in the United States. They were an independent franchise, not affiliated with either Major League Baseball or Minor League Baseball. The team played from 2005 to 2010 and their home stadium was at "The Station" at Goodwin Field, which is also the home field for the Cal State Fullerton Titans.
