Phil Rulloda

Phil Rulloda is an American floral designer, floral design teacher, and author. He has appeared nationally and internationally as a featured speaker and presenter in more than 500 floral industry events. Notable works include Christmas decorating at the White House during the Gerald Ford administration and designing for the 1984 Summer Olympic Games.

Rulloda co-authored and published Contemporary and Tropical Floral Design with Silverio Casabar in 1990, with a second printing released in 1998. He is the owner and head instructor at the Phil Rulloda Southern California School of Floral Design in Anaheim, California.

National and international floral design competitions

Phil owns and teaches the classes at the Southern California School of Floral Design in Anaheim, CA . Rulloda and his family own and operate Avante Garden Florist in Anaheim, CA. In April 2010, the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) Association awarded Rulloda a lifetime membership for his years of service and work for the association.

Phil served as one of the judges for selecting the best Rose Parade Float during Rose Parade 2017. [1]

Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, created by the efforts of Charles Frederick Holder and Francis F. Rowland, is the non-profit organization that has annually produced the New Year's Day Rose Parade since 1890 and the Rose Bowl since 1902. "America's New Year Celebration" is "a festival of flowers, music and equestrians and sports unequaled anywhere in the world", according to the Tournament of Roses. The association has 935 volunteer members and the members spend some 80,000 combined work-hours to stage the events.

Tournament of Roses Parade floats are flower-covered parade floats, used in the annual New Year's Day Tournament of Roses Parade held in Pasadena, California. They evolved from flower-decorated horse carriages with the present day requirement that "every inch of every float must be covered with flowers or other natural materials, such as leaves, seeds or bark". Three civic and floral industry leaders judge the floats and award prizes in 24 categories.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Cal Poly Universities Rose Float</span>

The Cal Poly Universities Rose Float is a joint entry of a rose float into the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association's annual Rose Parade by both Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo universities. These two institutions have continuously participated in the parade since 1949; winning the Award of Merit in their first year. The Cal Poly floats have led in introducing technology to the Parade, including the first use of hydraulics for animation in 1968, the first use of computer-controlled animation in 1978, the first use of fiber optics in 1982, animated deco in 2014, and the first to create a color changing floral effect in 2017. As of January 2, 2020, the floats have won 60 awards. This program is one of the longest consecutive running self-built entries in the parade, as well as the only "self built" float designed and constructed entirely by students year-round on two campuses. They compete against professional float builders who manufacture entries for sponsors, many of them with development budgets approaching $1 million. This tradition continues today and marks the partnership between the two campuses.

The Texas State Florists' Association (TSFA) was founded in 1914 and is headquartered in Austin, Texas. Since its inception, the TSFA has grown into a professional trade association that covers many branches of the floral industry. Its membership base includes a diverse assortment of people in the floral industry, and it is involved in professional services and marketing in support of floral interests, state legislation, and the provision of educational opportunities. It represents the Texas floral industry, and has members in ten additional states. The organization hosts an annual convention, the first of which occurred in 1914. The TSFA sponsors the Texas Certified Florists Program, and publishes a monthly magazine named The Bloomin' Texan.

The Luther Burbank Rose Parade and Festival is an annual festival held in Santa Rosa, California celebrating Luther Burbank and his contribution to the world through a series of events. This festival has undergone changes throughout the years but has always included activities for all ages, and is now held on the third Saturday of May. In 1994 the parade became a tax-exempt corporation, no longer being run by other civic organizations. It has an annual budget of around $100,000.00 to produce the parade and festival. This is achieved through grants, donations and entrance/vendor fees. The parade is now centered on a theme that changes each year, allowing for the incorporation of new activities, displays and floats.

Patricia Easterbrook Roberts was an Australian-born floral designer, author, and landscape designer who worked in Australia, England and the United States.

Lester's Florist was a florist located in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Established in August 1971, it provided floral arrangements for the presidential inauguration galas of consecutive U.S. presidents. Owned by Lester Anthony for all of its fifty years in business, it closed in February 2022.
