Route
The route begins in Muldersdrift (north-east of Krugersdorp), in the Mogale City Local Municipality, at a junction with the N14 national route. It parallels the N14 in a northeasterly direction (while being on the southern side of the N14) and meets the M5 road of Johannesburg (Beyers Naude Drive), which connects to Randburg. It is co-signed with the M5 south-east up to the next junction, where it becomes its own road northeast as Nooitgedacht Road. It proceeds to form a junction with the R512 road (Malibongwe Drive) south of Lanseria International Airport in the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. The R512 also connects to Randburg in the south-east.
Soon after meeting the R512, it meets the R552 road (Cedar Road), which connects to Fourways and Sandton in the south-east. The R114 proceeds north-east to bypass the township of Diepsloot. In Diepsloot West, it crosses to the northern side of the parallel N14 highway to bypass Diepsloot's central area. At the point of crossing to the northern side of the N14, the R114 enters the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.
Just after crossing over the N14, it meets the R511 road, which goes to Sandton in the south and Hartbeespoort in the north. The R511 and R114 are co-signed northwards up to the next junction, where the R114 becomes its own road eastwards.
From the R511 junction, the R114 continues eastwards to form a junction with the R55 road (Voortrekker Street) in the Heuweloord suburb of Centurion. At this junction, it turns to the northeast and proceeds through the Wierdapark and Eldoraigne suburbs of Centurion to end at a junction with the R101 road (Old Johannesburg Road).
Randburg is an area located in the Gauteng province of South Africa. Formerly a separate municipality, its administration devolved to the newly created City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, along with neighbouring Sandton and Roodepoort, in the late 1990s. During the transitional period of 1996–2000, Randburg was part of the Northern Metropolitan Local Council (MLC).
The R24 is a major East-West provincial route in the Gauteng and North West provinces that links OR Tambo International Airport with Rustenburg via Johannesburg, Krugersdorp and Magaliesburg. The process of renaming the streets and freeway that form the route from Krugersdorp eastward to OR Tambo International after anti-apartheid stalwart Albertina Sisulu was completed in 2013.
The R28 is a provincial route in Gauteng, South Africa that connects Krugersdorp with Vereeniging via Randfontein. The R28 used to connect with Pretoria, but that section of the road is now part of the N14.
The R55 is a north-south provincial route in Gauteng, South Africa that connects Sandton with Pretoria. It passes Woodmead, Kyalami, Olievenhoutbosch, Heuweloord, Sunderland Ridge, Erasmia, Laudium/Claudius, West Park, the Daspoort Tunnel and Danville. It connects with the M1, N14, and R80 highways. It is also designated as the P66-1 and K71 by the Gauteng Provincial Government.
The N4 is a national route in South Africa that runs from Skilpadshek on the Botswana border, past Rustenburg, Pretoria, eMalahleni and Mbombela, to Komatipoort on the Mozambique border. The entire route is a toll road.
The N14 is a national route in South Africa which runs from Springbok in the Northern Cape to Pretoria in Gauteng. It passes through Upington, Kuruman, Vryburg, Krugersdorp and Centurion. The section between Pretoria and Krugersdorp is maintained by the Gauteng Provincial government and is also designated the P158.
The R101 is a Regional Route in South Africa that is the designation for some of the old sections of roads that were previously the N1, prior to upgrading. It only has 2 sections, from Bellville to Worcester and from Johannesburg to Polokwane.

The main part of the route runs along Beyers Naudé Drive.
