Rajesh Subramaniam is the CEO and President of the FedEx Corporation. Prior to this position, he held many organizational management and marketing roles in Asia and the US at FedEx.

Early life and education

Subramaniam was born in Thiruvananthapuram, India into a Malayali Hindu family. [1] His father worked in Indian Police service and his mother worked as a Doctor in Kerala Health services. [2] He attended the Loyola School in the city. [2] [3] At age 15, he moved to Mumbai, where he completed his high school in SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sion(W), afterwards attended IIT Bombay and graduated with a B.Tech. in chemical engineering in 1987. [4] [5] [6]

He moved to the United States on a scholarship to Syracuse University and earned an MS in chemical engineering in 1989. [7] [8] He also earned an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin during the early 1990s recession. [9] His father retired as DGP of Kerala and his mother as Additional director, Kerala health services. [2] His Wife Uma and his brother Rajeev also work in FedEx. [2]

Career

Subramaniam joined FedEx in 1991 as an associate marketing analyst. He quickly rose through the ranks and held several management and marketing roles in Asia and the US. Beginning in 1996, he served as the Vice-President of Marketing at FedEx Express in the Asia-Pacific region, and was then appointed as the regional president of Canada in 2003. From 2013 to 2019, he served as the Executive VP, marketing and communication. [10] [11]

In late 2018, he was promoted to the CEO of FedEx’s legacy Express business. [12] After retirement of David J. Bronczek in 2019, Subramaniam was named the COO. [13] [14] He joined the FedEx board in January 2020. [9] [15]

In March 2022, FedEx announced that Subramaniam will replace founder Fred Smith as the President and CEO, effective June 1st. [16] [17] [18]

He serves on the board of directors of FedEx Corporation, FIRST , the United States Chamber of Commerce's China Center Advisory Board, US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, and the US-China Business Council. He currently serves as a member of the President's Export Council. [19]

Abhayanand is an IPS officer and educationalist who, along with Anand Kumar, conceptualised Super 30 to teach poor students to crack IIT JEE. Following his graduation from Patna Science College, Abhayanand was selected as the IPS officer for the Bihar cadre after clearing UPSC Civil Services Examination in 1977. He was the ADG (headquarters) in 2006 and as such he concentrated on the speedy trial of Arms Act cases in Bihar. Later, during his tenure as the ADG of Bihar Military Police, Patna, he motivated the constables to donate from their salaries to convert a dilapidated government hospital into a modern nursing home with state-of-the-art facilities for treatment of the police force and their family members. Abhayanand was appointed as D.G.P., Bihar in August 2011, following the footsteps of his late father, Mr. Jagdanand, who was the 28th D.G.P., Bihar in 1985–86.

David J. Bronczek is an American businessman who was the President and COO of FedEx Corporation until March 1, 2019; replaced by Raj Subramaniam. He began working at FedEx in 1976 as a courier, and held top jobs in Canada and Europe before returning to headquarters in Memphis in early 1998 to become the executive vice president and chief operating officer. In October 1999 he was selected to become the president and chief executive of FedEx Express, one of the three operating companies in the Federal Express Corporation, as of January 2000.
