The Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) is an Indian political party in the state of Rajasthan. The party was founded by Hanuman Beniwal on the eve of the 2018 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elction. [2] [3]

Contents

The party entered into an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party on the eve of the 2019 Indian general election. [4] It has extended its support to the 2020 Bharat Bandh and the Indian farmers' protest. [5]

The party entered into an alliance with the Indian National Congress party on the eve of the 2024 Indian general elections to save the democratic system in the country. [6]

History

Beniwal was suspended by the Bharatiya Janata Party due to disagreements and corruption allegations against the senior leadership of the party, he had become an independent member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. [2] In 2018, Beniwal conducted the "Hunkar Rally" before the upcoming legislative assembly election and formed the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party which was supported by Ghanshyam Tiwari, Jayant Chaudhary and Sanjay Lathar. [2] [3]

The party received support from members of the Jat community, [5] and was able to have its representatives elected on three seats of the legislative assembly. [7] In 2019, the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party entered into an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party before the general election. It contested on the Nagaur seat and extends its support to the Bharatiya Janata Party on all other seats in the state. [4]

Beniwal who had contested from the Nagaur seat was elected to the Lok Sabha. [8] Following the passage of the 2020 Indian agriculture reform, Beniwal resigned from three parliamentary committees, [9] and the party extended its support to the Indian farmers' protest and supported the all India general strike. [5] On 26 December 2020, RLP quit NDA alliance in protest to three farmer laws and the party said them as Anti-farmer laws. [10]

On 27 October 2023, the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party announced its alliance with Chandra Shekhar Ravan's Azad Samaj Party for the upcoming 2023 Rajasthan Assembly elections. [11]

Following 2024 Indian general elections, RLP chief Beniwal announced their alliance with INDIA bloc to protect the democratic system in country. Hanuman Beniwal was announced as the Candidate of INDIA bloc from Nagaur constituency on 25 March. [6]
