Ravi Shankar was an Indian sitarist and composer. A sitar virtuoso,he became the world's best-known expert of North Indian classical music in the second half of the 20th century,and influenced many musicians in India and throughout the world. Shankar was awarded India's highest civilian honour,the Bharat Ratna,in 1999.

The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) is a public liberal arts college in Chickasha,Oklahoma. It is the only public college in Oklahoma with a strictly liberal arts–focused curriculum and is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. USAO is an undergraduate-only institution and grants bachelor's degrees in a variety of subject areas. George Mesrop Avakian was an American record producer,artist manager,writer,educator and executive. Best known for his work from 1939 to the early 1960s at Decca Records,Columbia Records,World Pacific Records,Warner Bros. Records,and RCA Records,he was a major force in the expansion and development of the U.S. recording industry. Avakian functioned as an independent producer and manager from the 1960s to the early 2000s and worked with artists such as Louis Armstrong,Miles Davis,Duke Ellington,Benny Goodman,Dave Brubeck,Eddie Condon,Keith Jarrett,Erroll Garner,Buck Clayton,Sonny Rollins,Paul Desmond,Edith Piaf,Bob Newhart,Johnny Mathis,John Cage,Alan Hovhaness,Ravi Shankar,and many other notable jazz musicians and composers.

He previously served as provost of Yale University from 2008 to 2013,dean of Yale College from 2004 to 2008,and dean of Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences from 2003 to 2004. Salovey is one of the early pioneers in emotional intelligence.
The Herb Alpert Award in the Arts was established in the 1994 by The Herb Alpert Foundation in collaboration with the California Institute of the Arts. The Herb Alpert Foundation,which included then-present Kip Cohen,and benefactors Herbert and Lani Alpert,approached then-CalArts president Steven Lavine with the proposition of providing young artists studying at the institute opportunities to engage with current American artists. This would be a forum to provide them with the best possible professional training. CalArts previously established a relationship with Herb Alpert from his support of the jazz program at the School of Music.

The Tulsa Youth Symphony Orchestra (TYS) is an Oklahoma nonprofit arts organization founded in 1963 to provide advanced orchestral training and performance experience for young musicians in Northeastern Oklahoma. As of 2016,more than 200 students,ages 8 to 18,participate in the program’s two orchestras. The orchestra is composed of students from northeast Oklahoma communities and schools including Tulsa,Bartlesville,Owasso,Sapulpa,Sand Springs,Broken Arrow,Bixby,Coweta,Grove,Oologah,Jenks,and Holland Hall,as well as home schooled children.
Anna Lewis (1885–1961) was a noted teacher,historian and writer,who specialized in American history,and particularly the history of the Southwest. Born in what was then Indian Territory to a family of mixed Choctaw and European ancestry,she earned doctoral degrees from University of California,Berkeley (1915) and University of Oklahoma (1930). She was the first woman to receive a Ph. D. at the University of Oklahoma. Lewis spent her educational career at the Oklahoma College for Women. She wrote two books and numerous articles for publications in her area of interest before retiring in 1956 to a home she had built in southern Oklahoma. She died in 1961.
Steven D. Lavine is an American academic administrator who was the president of the California Institute of the Arts. He stepped down from that position in June 2017,after 29 years in the post.
