Belmont's current enrollment consists of approximately 8,900 students representing every state and 28 nations. The university served as the host site for the final presidential debate in the 2020 election cycle. Although the university cut its ties with the Tennessee Baptist Convention in 2007, it continues to emphasize a Christian identity.

As of 2019, approximately 200 students were enrolled, mostly full-time.     J. Timothy Cloyd, Ph.D. is an American educator and higher education administrator, and is currently the 18th president of Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. Cloyd previously served as the president of Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas from 2001 to 2013. He began his duties at Drury University on July 1, 2016, following the retirement of Dr. David Manuel.

    Judy K. Sakaki is a former American academic administrator, who previously served as the seventh president of Sonoma State University (SSU). She spent most of her previous academic career as a student affairs administrator in the University of California system. She is the first Japanese-American woman to head a four-year college or university in the United States, as well as the first Asian American woman hired as a university president in California and the second woman to serve as president of SSU.

    Sarah Fisher Gardial is an American academic and teacher. She became dean of Belmont University Massey College of Business in March 2020. She is also the former dean of Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa.
