The Russian Basketball Cup is the primary professional national domestic basketball cup competition of Russia.
After the cease of the USSR Basketball Cup in 1987, the Russian Federation did not launch any Cup competition in the following years despite the fact that the Russian Basketball Super League 1 had started in 1992. The first cup tournament took place in the year 2000 with the Final Four being hosted at Sochi. It was not held in the following two seasons, but it returned in 2002. Starting from the 2014-15 season most of the VTB League clubs withdrew as the Russian Federation did not allow the use of foreign players in the competition resulting in only 3 VTB teams (Khimki, Krasnye Krylia and Krasny Oktyabr) participating. BC UNICS was the last club from the VTB League to win the trophy in 2014. The last two seasons (2020-22) no VTB club applied to participate in the competition as normally two or three teams would join annually. Current holders are BC Samara.

Rimas Kurtinaitis is a Lithuanian professional basketball coach who currently serves as the head coach of Sabah BC, and a retired professional basketball player, who was a member of the senior Soviet and Lithuanian national basketball teams during his playing career. He won a gold medal at 1988 Olympics in South Korea. He recently worked as the head coach for Khimki. At a height of 1.96 m (6'5") tall, during his playing career, he played at the shooting guard position. He is the only non-NBA player to ever participate at the NBA All-Star Weekend's Three-Point Contest, doing so in 1989, where he scored 9 points.
The Russian Basketball Super League 1, or Super Liga 1,, formerly known as the Russian Basketball Super League A or the Russian Basketball Super Liga A, is a men's professional basketball league that was the pre-eminent league of Russian professional basketball until 2010. VTB United League is an international professional men's club basketball league that was founded in 2009. It is made up of mostly Russian clubs, along with one each from Belarus and Kazakhstan. Since 2013, it is the first tier of Russian professional club basketball. Therefore, the highest placed Russian team in the league can also be named the Russian national champions. The league is sponsored by Russian state-owned VTB Bank. In 2009 CSKA Moscow won VTB United League Promo-Cup, but this competition does not count as official VTB title. CSKA has dominated the league, having won majority of titles its existence. The VTB United League also holds a youth competition, the VTB United Youth League.
