The Dallas Stars are a professional ice hockey team based in Dallas. They compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Central Division in the Western Conference, and were founded during the 1967 NHL expansion as the Minnesota North Stars, based in Bloomington, Minnesota. Before the 1978–79 NHL season, the team merged with the Cleveland Barons after the league granted them permission due to each team's respective financial struggles. Eventually, the franchise relocated to Dallas for the 1993–94 NHL season where the team was rebranded as the Dallas Stars. The Stars played out of Reunion Arena located in downtown Dallas from their relocation in 1993 until 2001, when the team moved less than 1.5 miles (2.4 km) into the American Airlines Center located in the nearby Victory Park neighborhood of Dallas, an arena they share with the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The Idaho Steelheads are an American professional minor league ice hockey team based in Boise, Idaho, and a member of the ECHL. The Steelheads play in the Mountain Division of the ECHL's Western Conference since the 2016–17 season.

The 2000 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League's (NHL) 1999–2000 season, and the culmination of the 2000 Stanley Cup playoffs. It was contested by the Eastern Conference champion New Jersey Devils against the Western Conference champion and defending Stanley Cup champion Dallas Stars. The Devils were led by captain Scott Stevens, head coach Larry Robinson and goaltender Martin Brodeur. The Stars were led by captain Derian Hatcher, head coach Ken Hitchcock and goaltender Ed Belfour. The Devils defeated the Stars 4–2 in a six-game series to win their second Stanley Cup in franchise history. This was the first, and along with 2001 the only Finals where two relocated teams faced each other.
Shawn Paul Horcoff is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre. He was selected in the fourth round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, 99th overall, by the Edmonton Oilers, with whom he played 11 seasons and served as team captain during three seasons. He currently serves as the assistant general manager for the Detroit Red Wings and as the general manager of their American Hockey League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins.

James Edward Nill is a Canadian former ice hockey player and the current general manager of the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). Nill played in the NHL throughout the 1980s with the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins, Winnipeg Jets, and Detroit Red Wings, retiring in 1990. Prior to making his NHL debut Nill also played for Canada at the 1980 Winter Olympics. He worked as a scout for the Ottawa Senators before joining the Red Wings in an executive role in 1994, staying with the team before moving to take up the general manager role with Dallas in 2013.
Jim Montgomery is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player. He is the current head coach of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), and formerly served as head coach of the Dallas Stars. During his playing career as a centre, he played in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, San Jose Sharks, and Dallas Stars.

The Allen Americans are a professional ice hockey team headquartered at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, which currently plays in the ECHL. The team was founded in 2009 in the Central Hockey League (CHL) where they played for five seasons, winning the Ray Miron President's Cup twice. The CHL folded in 2014 and the ECHL accepted the remaining CHL teams as members for the 2014–15 season. In their first two seasons in the ECHL, Allen advanced to the Kelly Cup finals, winning the championship in both years. Scott Glennie is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward. Glennie is commonly referred to one of the biggest NHL busts in the modern hockey eras. Glennie was drafted in the first round, 8th overall, by the Dallas Stars in the 2009 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft. However, he would end up playing just one single game at the NHL level in six professional seasons. Prior to turning professional, Glennie played for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League.
Travis Andrew Morin is an American former professional ice hockey player who briefly played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Dallas Stars. He most notably played with the Stars American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Texas Stars, appearing in 686 games across ten seasons and having his jersey retired after he finished his playing career in 2019.
Jamieson Oleksiak is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing for the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). Nicknamed the "Big Rig", Oleksiak was selected 14th overall in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars, the highest draft choice in Northeastern University's history.
