Sectors (Kinyarwanda: Imirenge, sing. umurenge, French: Secteurs) are the third level administrative subdivision in Rwanda.

Organization

The Provinces of Rwanda are subdivided into 30 districts (Rwanda: uturere, sing. akarere). Each district is in turn divided into sectors. There are 416 Sectors. [1]

History

This entire administrative structure is undergoing a process of decentralisation – devolving greater authority to local governments and municipalities – following an administrative reorganisation begun in 2002. [2]

Water supply and sanitation in Rwanda is characterized by a clear government policy and significant donor support. In response to poor sustainability of rural water systems and poor service quality, in 2002 local government in the Northern Byumba Province contracted out service provision to the local private sector in a form of public–private partnership. Support for public-private partnerships became a government policy in 2004 and locally initiated public-private partnerships spread rapidly, covering 25% of rural water systems as of 2007.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Decentralization in Rwanda</span>

In the year 2000, Rwanda began a decentralization process by adopting a National Decentralization Policy. The policy's objective were to promote good governance, to reduce poverty and to promote efficient, effective, and accountable service delivery.

Ignatienne Nyirarukundo is a Rwandan politician who currently serves as Senior Advisor in Charge of Social Protection Program in the Office of Prime Minister since November 2021.
