Siobhan Teresa Hayes (born 17 February 1974) [1] is an English actress. She is known for her roles as Abi Harper in the BBC sitcom My Family and Sandy in the BBC radio series Absolute Power .

Career

Hayes portrayed Abi Harper, a clumsy and dim-witted student in the British sitcom My Family , a role she held between 2002 and 2008, when the character became a nun, allowing a potential return. [2] She has also made guest appearances in Little Britain , Paul Merton: The Series , Agatha Christie's Marple , Birds of a Feather , and The Bill . [3] Her early appearances included portraying a pupil of Class 5C onwards from 1991, in the series Up the Garden Path . [4]

In 2005, she was a contestant on the third series of the BBC competition Strictly Come Dancing , paired with professional Matthew Cutler. The couple were the first to be eliminated. [5] On 1 February 2008, it was announced that Hayes would be joining EastEnders , in the role of Melinda, the partner of the show's returning Ricky Butcher portrayed by Sid Owen. [6] This was Hayes' second role in EastEnders, as she portrayed Jane on 4 July 1991. [7] [8] Hayes starred in the 2011 British live action 3D family comedy film Horrid Henry: The Movie , portraying the role of the titular character's mother. [9] In 2022, Hayes appeared in an advert for Specsavers and also featured in the Christmas advert for McDonald's. [10]

<i>My Family</i> series 3 Season of television series

The third series of the BBC family sitcom My Family originally aired between 6 September 2002 and 25 December 2002. The series was commissioned following consistently high ratings for the second series. The opening episode of the series, "Absent Vixen, Cheeky Monkey", re-introduces the five main characters, but also writes out the character of Janey, who plays only a recurring role in this series. In Episode 3, Abi Harper, played by Siobhan Hayes, is introduced to replace Janey. All fourteen episodes in the third series are thirty minutes in length, including the Christmas special. The series was once again produced by Rude Boy Productions, a company that produces comedies created by Fred Barron. The series was filmed at Pinewood Studios in London, in front of a live audience.

The ninth series of the BBC family sitcom My Family originally aired between 2 April 2009 and 24 December 2009. The series was commissioned following successful ratings from the previous series. The opening episode, "Bully For Ben", re-introduces the six main characters, with the exception of Abi. Kris Marshall (Nick) and Siobhan Hayes (Abi) make a guest appearance in the last episode of the series, "Kenzo's Project". All episodes from the ninth series are thirty minutes long, excluding the Christmas special. Natalie Gumede is an English actress. She is known for playing Kirsty Soames in the ITV soap opera, Coronation Street, from 2011 to 2013. She previously played China in BBC Three comedy show Ideal. She has also appeared in The Persuasionists, Emmerdale and Doctor Who among other television shows. Gumede was also runner-up in the 2013 series of Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One. From 2017 to 2019, Gumede began appearing in Netflix original Free Rein as Maggie Steel Phillips.

Katherine Manners is an English actress, screenwriter, and playwright. She is best known for her lead role as Vera Brittain in the 2008 BBC One television documentary A Woman in Love and War: Vera Brittain and for portraying Jane Corby Whigham in the 2021 Prime Video historical drama television miniseries A Very British Scandal. She has performed as a stage actress at the Royal National Theatre, Watford Palace Theatre, and West End Theatre. She was part of the international touring cast of Sam Mendes' production of Richard III.
