Bird's Point is an unincorporated community in Mississippi County, Missouri, United States. The March 2008 Midwest floods were a massive flooding event in the Southern Midwest and portions of the Southern Plains. Cape Girardeau, Missouri officially reported 11.48 inches (29.2 cm) between March 18 and 19. At least 17 people died as a result of the flooding. Levee breaks were observed in several areas, most notably in Southeastern Missouri, where levee breaks occurred through mid-April.

Bryan Pratt is the former representative for District 55 in the Missouri House of Representatives. A Republican, Pratt was elected to the House in November 2002. He was elected the Speaker Pro Tem in September 2007. He was unable to run for re-election in 2010 because of state term limits.

Timothy W. Jones is a Republican former member of the Missouri House of Representatives, representing the 110th district, which encompasses a portion of St. Louis County. The 2010 Missouri State Auditor election took place on November 2, 2010. Republican Ambassador Tom Schweich defeated incumbent Democratic State Auditor Susan Montee. It was only the third time in the last four decades that a sitting auditor in Missouri was unseated. Schweich's victory made him one of only two Republicans elected to Missouri's executive branch.

The Birds Point-New Madrid Floodway is a flood control component of the Mississippi River and Tributaries Project located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in southeast Missouri just below the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. The construction of the floodway was authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1928 and later modified by the Flood Control Act of 1965. Its purpose is to divert water from the Mississippi River during major flood events and lower the flood stages upstream, notably at Cairo, Illinois.

Land on the island is generally valuable for farming, especially when protected from flooding, while the lake has developed a reputation as a valuable sport-fishing location.

Mary Elizabeth Coleman is an American politician, attorney, and anti-abortion activist from Arnold, Missouri. She has served in the Missouri Senate since 2023, representing the 22nd district. Coleman was previously a state representative from 2019 to 2023 and a Arnold city councilwoman from 2013 to 2015.
