Saint Francis University (SFU) is a private Catholic university in Loretto, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1847 and conducted under the tradition of the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular. The university is situated on 600 acres (243 ha) in the forests and farmland of Loretto.
The Penn State Lady Lions basketball team represents Pennsylvania State University and plays its home games in the Bryce Jordan Center. In 2013, the Lady Lions became just the 12th program in NCAA Division I history to reach 850 wins. John Thurston is a retired American college basketball coach. He was the head coach of the St. Francis College women's basketball team from 2012 to 2018. Thurston was born in the Bronx, New York and is an alumnus of Archbishop Molloy High School and Seton Hall University. Through both high school and college, Thurston was a two sport player playing baseball and basketball. After graduating high school in 1966, Thurston was drafted by Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1966 MLB Amateur Draft.
The Rider Broncs are the athletic teams of Rider University, a private nonsectarian university in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, United States. The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers women's basketball program represented St. Francis College (SFC) in intercollegiate women's basketball. The team was a member of the Division I Northeast Conference from 1988 until 2023. The Terriers played at the Activity Resource Center at Pratt Institute in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Through the start of the 2022–23 season, the team had played at the Peter Aquilone Court at the Generoso Pope Athletic Complex on SFC's former campus in Brooklyn Heights. At the end of the 2021–22 school year, SFC moved to a new campus on Livingston Street in Downtown Brooklyn that has no athletic facilities; SFC arranged to use The ARC on at least a temporary basis. On March 20, 2023, St. Francis Brooklyn announced the discontinuation of all intercollegiate sports, meaning the 2022–23 season was the final season for the Terriers.
The Northeast Conference Women's Basketball Coach of the Year is a basketball award given to head coaches in the Northeast Conference (NEC). The award is granted to the head coach voted to be the most successful that season by the league's coaches. The award is named in honor of Brenda Reilly, a teacher, sports administrator and three-sport coach in a career of almost three decades at Central Connecticut State University.
Charlie Buscaglia is an American college basketball coach and the former head coach of the Robert Morris Colonials women's basketball program. Before he succeeded his father, Sal, as head coach following the 2015-16 season, Buscaglia spent 13 years on the Colonials' coaching staff and previously assisted at his alma mater, Manhattan College.

The Red Flash, led by sixth-year head coach Rob Krimmel, played their home games at the DeGol Arena in Loretto, Pennsylvania as members of the Northeast Conference. They finished the season 18–13, 12–6 in NEC play to finish in a tie for second place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the NEC tournament to Fairleigh Dickinson. They were invited to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament where they lost in the first round to UIC.

The Red Flash's home games are played at the DeGol Arena. The team was a member of the Northeast Conference and was led by Joe Haigh, who was in his sixth year at the helm. They finished the season 24–10, 16–2 in NEC play to win the Northeast Regular Season Championship with Robert Morris. They were also champions of the NEC tournament and earns an automatic trip to the NCAA women's basketball tournament where they got demolished by the unbeaten UConn in the first round.
Irma Garcia was the athletics director at St. Francis College up until the school disbanded its entire athletics program following the 2022–23 school year. When she took the job in 2007, Garcia was the country's first Latina athletic director in NCAA Division I sports.
The 1990–91 Saint Francis Red Flash men's basketball team represented Saint Francis University during the 1990–91 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Red Flash, led by fourth-year head coach Jim Baron, played their home games at the DeGol Arena and were members of the Northeast Conference. They finished the season 24–8, 13–3 in NEC play to finish in a tie for first place. They won the Northeast Conference tournament, their first, to advance to a play-in game against Fordham, which they also won, to secure a bid to the NCAA tournament. The Red Flash fell in the opening round to Lute Olson's Arizona Wildcats. As of 2022, this is their only NCAA tournament appearance.
