Taka Perry (born 18 October 1998) is an Australian-Japanese music producer, songwriter and artist from Canberra, Australia. [1] His past collaborations include Ruel, Denzel Curry, GoldLink, SIRUP, Thomas Headon, and M-Phazes.

Career


Taka Perry was born and raised in Canberra, Australia to an American father and Japanese mother. He played a variety of instruments from a young age, and on his 12th birthday his parents bought him a digital audio workstation which sparked his interest in production. [2]

In 2015, while attending high school at Narrabundah College, [3] he met Robert Conley through a school songwriting program run by APRA AMCOS. [4] Upon graduating, he relocated to Sydney to pursue a career in music, with Conley acting as a mentor in his early career. In 2018, he worked as an additional producer on Ruel's debut EP Ready , including the ARIA platinum-certified single "Younger". [5]

In July 2019, Perry announced a record deal signing with TMRW Music. [6] In July 2020, Perry performed a cover of Kanye West's "Jesus Walks" for Triple J's Like a Version segment, featuring Western Sydney musician A.Girl. [7] The performance was met with critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone Australia calling it "an anthem for the current times." [8]

In February 2022, Perry co-wrote and produced "When I'm With You" by Isaiah Firebrace and Evie Irie, which was be performed at Eurovision - Australia Decides. [9]

He is fluent in both English and Japanese. [10]

Kate Melina Miller-Heidke is an Australian singer and songwriter. Although classically trained, she has generally followed a career in alternative pop music. Four of her solo studio albums have peaked in the top 10 of the ARIA Albums Chart, Curiouser, Nightflight, O Vertigo! and Child in Reverse. What About Tonight were an Australian boy band formed early in 2012 by Christian Anthony, Mitchel Cave, Tyrone Georgiadis, Luke Howell and Brock Jays. They reached the final 12 on TV talent show, The X Factor. After being eliminated in September 2012, the members returned to their respective home towns. A trimmed line-up of Jays, Georgiadis and Howell were joined by Wade Smith early in 2013. They issued a single, "Time of Our Lives", which peaked at No. 25 on the ARIA singles chart. After leaving What About Tonight, Anthony and Cave formed an alternative R&B trio, Chase Atlantic in 2014.
