Local Calls

In the same town/city

For calls inside the same geographic numbering area (local calls), dial the Subscriber Number only (this includes the Prefixing Number).^[1]

To another town/city

To make a call from one town or city to another within Zimbabwe, a subscriber should dial the area code (with the preceding zero "0"), followed by the New Added Prefixing Number, and the required subscriber number.^[1]

International calls

Zimbabwe was allocated its own country code by the International Telecommunication Union, +263, in the late 1960s, when it was known as Rhodesia.^[2]

To call a Zimbabwean number from another country: dial: the international access code (i.e. 00 for most European countries, and 011 from North America), followed by the country code (263), followed by the area code, and then the required subscriber number.^[1] Example for calling a subscriber in Harare, Zimbabwe, dail: 00 263 24 2xx xxx (x= subscriber number). The zero (0) at the beginning of the area code is dropped when calling with the country code (263). Until the 1990s, calls to Zimbabwe could be made from South Africa using the regional code 0194.^[3]
For international calls from Zimbabwe, dial the international Access Prefix "00" followed by the country code and the National Significant Number for the subscriber.^[1] Until 1996, the international access code was 110.^[4]

The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) is a telephone numbering plan for twenty-five regions in twenty countries, primarily in North America and the Caribbean. This group is historically known as World Zone 1 and has the international calling code 1. Some North American countries, most notably Mexico, do not participate in the NANP.

South Africa switched to a closed numbering system effective 16 January 2007. At that time, it became mandatory to dial the full 10-digit telephone number, including the zero in the three-digit area code, for local calls. Area codes within the system are generally organized geographically. All telephone numbers are 9 digits long, except for certain Telkom special services. When dialed from another country, the "0" is omitted and replaced with the appropriate international access code and the country code +27.

Telephone numbers in the Republic of Ireland

Numbers on the Irish telephone numbering plan are regulated and assigned to operators by ComReg.

Telephone numbers in Singapore, also known as the National Numbering Plan, are regulated by the Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA). Due to the small geographical size of Singapore, there are no area or trunk codes; all numbers belong to one numbering area, and thus come in the same 8-digit format. Numbers are categorised based on the first digit, thus providing ten possible categories, of which six are currently in use and the remaining four reserved for future usage.

Area code 246 is the telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for Barbados. Telecommunication services in Barbados are regulated by the Government of Barbados's telecommunications unit. The number 246 spells BIM on an alpha-numeric telephone keypad, a nickname for the island.

Telephone numbers in Malaysia are regulated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Thailand's telephone numbering plan in Thailand is managed by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) in accordance with International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) recommendation E.164.

The following telephone numbers in Kenya are destination codes for international calls terminating in Kenya as well as the procedures for dialling internationally from within Kenya. Until 1999, Kenya shared its telephone numbering plan with Tanzania and Uganda, meaning that to make calls between the three countries, subscribers needed only dial the area code and number, a legacy of the East African Post and Telecommunications Corporation (EAPTC) which was dissolved in 1977. As a result of the reorganisation of Tanzania's numbering plan in that year, direct dialling was discontinued, although calls between the three countries do not require international dialling, only a special three-digit code.

A telephone number is a sequence of digits assigned to a fixed-line telephone subscriber station connected to a telephone line or to a wireless electronic telephony device, such as a radio telephone or a mobile telephone, or to other devices for data transmission via the public switched telephone network (PSTN) or other public and private networks.

The Belize telephone numbering plan is the system used for assigning telephone numbers in Belize.

TelOne Zimbabwe is a parastatal telecommunications company owned by the Zimbabwe government headquartered in Harare's Central Business District. It is the largest telecom entity in Zimbabwe and has the second largest fixed-line network in Southern Africa after Telkom South Africa.
