The Very Best is a greatest hits album released by Australian band INXS in 2011. It initially peaked at number 39 in Australia.

Following the screening of INXS: Never Tear Us Apart , an Australian miniseries about INXS that commenced on 9 February 2014 on the Seven Network, [1] the album re-entered the charts, peaking at number one. [2] When the miniseries screened in New Zealand in August 2014, the album also charted, similarly peaking at number one. [3]

Track listing

The album was released in three formats; a single-disc version, a double-disc version and a double-disc version with a DVD. [4] The first disc of the deluxe edition is the same as the standard edition.

Chart performance

The Very Best debuted and peaked at number 39 in Australia on 6 November 2011. When promotion began for the mini-series, it re-entered the charts at number 13 on 10 November 2013. With the airing on the mini-series in February 2014, the album slowly rose to number-one on 17 February 2014. [5] It became the first INXS "best of" album to reach number-one in Australia. [6]

The Very Best took 77 weeks before it reached number-one and holds the record for the longest number of weeks to rise to number one, in ARIA chart history. [7]

The Very Best was the highest selling album in Australia by an Australian artist in 2014 and the fourth overall. [8]

Overall, the album featured a slightly harder-edged sound than their previous releases.

X is the seventh studio album by Australian rock band INXS, released on 25 September 1990 through WEA in Australia, Mercury Records in Europe, and Atlantic Records in the United States and Canada. The follow-up to the massive seller Kick, X scored hits with "Suicide Blonde" and "Disappear". Both singles were later used in the soundtrack to the 1991 American teen comedy Mystery Date. Two other singles from X were "Bitter Tears" and "By My Side" but they had less chart success. Definitive INXS is a compilation of Australian rock band INXS released in 2002. It has almost the same track listing as The Best of INXS. The compilation features most of their hit singles, as well as two previously unreleased tracks, "Salvation Jane" and "Tight". "Salvation Jane" is an outtake taken from the X sessions in 1990. The 2002 remaster of X features the song's original demo. "Tight" was written by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Farriss and recorded by the band during the sessions for Welcome to Wherever You Are in 1992. The song was reworked by the remaining members of INXS in 2002 after the death of vocalist Michael Hutchence in 1997. The compilation also features a cover of Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild", which was specially recorded for the April 1993 launch of Virgin Radio in the UK and was first included on the Japanese release of Full Moon, Dirty Hearts.
