Tony Cox is an American radio and television journalist who is host of the syndicated radio talk show UpFront with Tony Cox and used to be host of News & Notes on National Public Radio (NPR). [1] [2] [3]

Cox is a graduate of UCLA, where he earned a bachelor's degree in English and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre. [1] He started his radio career in 1969 at KFWB in Los Angeles, an all-news station where he was a writer, editor, reporter and anchor. In 1982, Cox became a reporter and early morning anchor for the Los Angeles television station KNXT (now KCBS-TV). In 1985, he changed stations, joining future Fox owned-and-operated station KTTV as an anchor and later anchored for independent station KHJ-TV (now KCAL-TV). [1] [4] He also spent 10 years as a senior correspondent for Inside Edition , and has worked on Fox Sports Net’s The Last Word With Jim Rome and as a correspondent for DirecTV Sports. [1]

In 2002, Cox became affiliated with National Public Radio, where his assignments included work as a substitute host on the Tavis Smiley Show and where he later was host of News & Notes. [1] [2] After News & Notes was ended in 2009, he teamed with the African American Public Radio Consortium to develop UpFront with Tony Cox, a daily news and talk show with an interview format that is aimed at African American audiences. It went on the air in October 2009 and was being broadcast in 17 U.S. radio markets as of January 2011. [5] [6]

Cox also raised funds with Cable Positive, funds supported 14 organisations in the community raise awareness of HIV/Aids issues [7]

Cox has received seven awards from the Los Angeles Press Club, including an award for News & Notes in 2008, and one Los Angeles-area Emmy Award. A founding member and first president of the Black Journalists Association of Southern California, he has served as a vice president for the National Association of Black Journalists and has received two NAACP Image Awards. In addition to his radio work, Cox holds a position on the faculty for Television, Film and Media Studies at California State University, Los Angeles. [1] [8]

Douglas Edwards American television news anchor

Douglas Edwards was an American radio and television newscaster and correspondent who worked for the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) for over four decades. After six years on CBS Radio in the 1940s, Edwards was among the first major broadcast journalists to move into the rapidly expanding medium of television. He is also generally recognized as the first presenter or "anchor" of a nationally televised, regularly scheduled newscast by an American network. Edwards presented CBS news on television every weeknight for 15 years, from March 20, 1947 until April 16, 1962. Initially aired as a 15-minute program under the title CBS Television News, the broadcast evolved into the CBS Evening News and in 1963 expanded to a 30-minute format under Walter Cronkite, who succeeded Edwards as anchor of the newscast. Madeleine Brand is an American broadcast journalist and radio personality. Brand is the host of the news and culture show Press Play, on KCRW-FM (89.9), one of Los Angeles' two National Public Radio (NPR) affiliates. The show made its debut in January 2014. Brand broadcasts from the basement of the cafeteria of Santa Monica College.

Kenneth Leon Jones was an American television journalist, actor, reporter and news anchor. Jones was known for his reports on the 1965 Watts riots and the assassination of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy in 1968. Ken Jones also conceived and published, along with his wife Regina Jones, SOUL, a black entertainment newsmagazine, from 1966-82. In 1992, Ken was diagnosed with bladder cancer and after a short battle with the disease, died in May 1993.

Frank also serves as moderator and master of ceremonies at business events and conferences. He is also known for his reporting and anchoring on TV stations KCAL9, CBS2 and KTLA5 in Los Angeles as well as The Nightly Business Report on PBS.
