Tyler Parsons (born September 18, 1997) is an American former professional ice hockey goaltender. Parsons most recently played for the Stockton Heat in the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect to the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Playing career

Junior

Parsons spent his junior career with the London Knights of the OHL, playing three seasons with the team, including winning seventeen straight games en route to winning the 2016 Memorial Cup. [1] [2] During the 2016-17 season, Parsons was one of the top goaltenders in the league; leading the league in save percentage for starting goaltenders. [2]

Professional

After his impressive performance leading up to his Memorial Cup championship, Parsons was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the 2nd round of the 2016 NHL draft, 54th overall. [3] [4] [5] Parsons signed his entry level contract with the Flames on March 19, 2017. [6] On October 13, 2017, Parsons made his professional debut for the Kansas City Mavericks of the ECHL, a 5–3 victory against the Tulsa Oilers. [7] Parsons would spend most of his professional rookie season with the Mavericks, with the remainder played with the Flames top affiliate, the Stockton Heat of the AHL. [8]

Despite being regarded as the Flames top goaltending prospect, [6] Parsons would play the entirety of his career in the Flames minor league system, never being called up due to injury and struggles with anger management, anxiety, and depression. [1] [9] [10] [11]

On December 24, 2016, Parsons was named to the final roster to represent the United States during the 2017 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. [12] Parsons would go on to shine in the tournament; not being credited with a loss, and winning the gold medal game in exciting fashion, beating host team Canada in the shootout. [13] [14]

He serves as an assistant head coach of the Arizona State Sun Devils, and is also currently a real estate agent in the Scottsdale, Arizona region. Läck, a goaltender, played in Sweden for Leksands IF of the HockeyAllsvenskan and Brynäs IF of the Elitserien before moving to the National Hockey League (NHL) where he played for the Vancouver Canucks, Carolina Hurricanes, Calgary Flames and New Jersey Devils. After going undrafted in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, he signed as a free agent with the Vancouver Canucks in 2010. He was assigned to the Manitoba Moose in his first season with the Canucks organization and was named to the American Hockey League's 2010–11 All-Rookie Team. The 2012–13 Calgary Flames season was the 33rd season in Calgary and the 41st of History the Flames franchise in the National Hockey League (NHL). The regular season was reduced from its usual 82 games to 48 due to the 2012–13 NHL lockout. Calgary recorded a 19–25–4 record under new head coach Bob Hartley that included a franchise record 13-game losing streak on the road. The Flames finished fourth in the Northwest Division, 13th in the Western Conference and failed to qualify for the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs. The 2013–14 Calgary Flames season was the 34th season in City of Calgary and 42nd for the Flames franchise in the National Hockey League (NHL). It was the first season of a rebuilding phase, and the first full year following the departure of long-time captain Jarome Iginla and goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff. Mark Giordano replaced Iginla as team captain. The Flames also began the year in a new division as they returned to the Pacific Division following a league-wide realignment. Change continued into the playing season as new team president Brian Burke fired general manager Jay Feaster on December 12, 2013, and assumed the role himself on an interim basis.

The 2015–16 Calgary Flames season was the 36th season in Calgary and 44th in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Flames franchise. Coming off an unexpected run to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2014–15, and having acquired defenceman Dougie Hamilton and forward Michael Frolik in the off-season, the Flames were expected to again compete for a playoff spot in 2015–16. Instead, the team struggled. Calgary missed the playoffs and spent much of the season languishing near the bottom of the NHL standings. Defenceman Dennis Wideman had a difficult season individually as he became embroiled in controversy after striking linesman Don Henderson after himself suffering a concussion during a game. The NHL suspended Wideman for 20 games for abuse of an official, prompting a pair of appeals from the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA). The second appeal, to a neutral arbitrator, found that the suspension was excessive, and reduced it to ten games, though Wideman had already missed 19 contests when the ruling was made.
