The Uganda Military Academy, is a military academy in Uganda, East Africa. Traditionally, graduates of the Military Academy are commissioned as officers in the Uganda People's Defence Force. Other African countries also send their cadets to the academy for training. [2] [3]

Location

The military academy is located in the town of Kabamba, approximately 49 kilometres (30 mi), by road, southwest of the town of Mubende, in Mubende District, in the Central Region of Uganda. [4] Kabamba is located approximately 201 kilometres (125 mi), west of Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the country's largest city. [5] The coordinates of Kabamba are: 0°15'00.0"N, 31°11'06.0"E (Latitude:0.2500; Longitude:31.1850). [6]

History

The academy was formed in 2007 by merging the Cadet Officer School, which was originally housed at Jinja, [7] with the Uganda School of Infantry, originally housed at Kabamba. Past Commandants at the institution have included Lieutenant General Andrew Gutti, Major General Chachu Neutral, and the late Brigadier Clovis Kalyebara. Mathew Gureme and Brigadier Dick Olum have each served as Chief Instructors at the Academy. [8]

Mission

The Military Academy aims to prepare and qualify cadets to become combat officers capable of commanding their units during times of peace and war, under various psychological, physical and morale conditions. Through scientific and cultural training that enables them to efficiently adapt to the advances in military science, cadets are schooled to maintain the highest level of combat efficiency and morale within their units. [3] The school has plans to offer university-level degree courses in defence and security studies. [9]

Beginning in 2017, the academy began offering a three-year course leading to the award of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Defence and Security Matters. [10]

The Uganda Junior Staff College, is a staff college in Uganda. Typically, graduates are commanders in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). Other African countries also send their cadets to the college for training. Past graduates of the college have come from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, and other African nations.

He is a General in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and a representative for the armed forces in the Parliament of Uganda; where he serves as a member of the Public Accounts Committee and the Committee on Presidential Affairs.

Wilson Mbadi Ugandan general

General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi is a senior military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). He currently serves as the Chief of Defense Forces, the highest position in Uganda's military. He was appointed to that position on 24 June 2021, replacing General David Muhoozi, who was appointed State Minister of Internal Affairs.

Brigadier Augustine Kamyuka Kyazze, is a Ugandan military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). He currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Logistics and Engineering in the UPDF, responsible for Engineering. In the past, he has served as Commander of the Armoured Component for AMISOM.

Brigadier Joseph Semwanga, is a Ugandan military officer. He currently serves as the Commander of the Armoured Brigade, based in Masaka. He was appointed to his current position in May 2013, replacing Major General David Muhoozi, who became the Commander of Land Forces within the Uganda People's Defence Forces.

The Karama Armoured Warfare Training School(KAWATS), is an Armoured Warfare Training School in Uganda, East Africa. Typically, graduates are commanders in the Uganda People's Defence Force. Other African countries also send their military personnel to the school for training.

Major General Elly Kayanja, is a Ugandan military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). Effective September 2014, he is the Head of Operation Wealth Creation Programme, whose objective is to improve the standard of living of rural citizens, through farming. Previously, he served as the Deputy Director of National Intelligence, under General David Sejusa. Prior to that, he served as the Director General of the Internal Security Organisation.

Major General Kayanja Muhanga, is Ugandan army officer. He currently serves as commander of the Uganda People's Defence Force contingent in Eastern DRC under operation code named Operation Shujja. He was appointed to that position in January 2021 by General Yoweri Museveni, the Commander in Chief of the UPDF and the President of Uganda. Prior to that, Maj. General Muhanga served as the commandant of the military police within the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF).

The Myanzi–Kassanda–Bukuya–Kiboga Road is a road in Uganda, connecting the towns of Myanzi, Kassanda and Bukuya in Mubende District, to Kiboga in Kiboga District.

Peter Elwelu is a Lieutenant General in the Ugandan military, known formally as the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF).He currently serves as the Deputy Chief of the Defense Forces of the UPDF. He was appointed to that position on 24 June 2021 Since 9 January 2017, he has served as the commander of land forces, which is the fourth-highest position in the UPDF hierarchy. Prior to that, from June 2013 until January 2017, he was the commander of the UPDF 2nd division, based in Mbarara, the largest town in Uganda's Western Region. Elwelu is most known for the Kasese massacre in which according to Human Rights Watch 153 people, including children, were killed. "They deserved to die" he told the Observer in May 2021.

Major General Kasirye Ggwanga, was a Ugandan military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Force. He was previously incarcerated as a prisoner of war for 897 days, inside both Uganda and Tanzania. He was a presidential advisor on Buganda Kingdom affairs. He was well respected for his fight towards environmental protection.

Colonel Edith Nakalema, is a Ugandan military officer, who graduated in August 2018 from the Higher Command and Staff Course at the Joint Services Command and Staff College, in Watchfield, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, where she had been admitted in 2017.

Major General Don William Nabasa, is a Ugandan military officer in the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF). He currently serves as the Commander of the UPDF Military Police, effective 26 October 2021. Before that, he was the Commander of the Uganda Contingent in Somalia as part of AMISOM.

National Defence College, Uganda is a National Security and Strategic Studies training and educational institution in Uganda.
