Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly |
The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, also known as Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, is the lower house of the bicameral legislature of Uttar Pradesh. [2] There are 403 seats in the house. Members of the Assembly are elected by an adult universal suffrage and a first-past-the-post system to represent their respective constituencies, and they hold their seats for five years or until the body is dissolved by the Governor on the advice of the council of ministers. The house meets in the Vidhan Sabha Chambers of the Vidhan Bhavan, Lucknow.
The Legislative Assembly for the United Provinces was constituted for the first time on 1 April 1937 in accordance with the Government of India Act, 1935 with a strength of 228. The size of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was decided as 403 members after the Uttar Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2000. There is one nominated Anglo-Indian member in addition to 403 members. [3] The first session of the provisional Uttar Pradesh Legislature under the new Constitution of India that established the country as a republic began on 2 February 1950. After the first elections the newly elected Assembly of Uttar Pradesh met on 19 May 1952.

The Samajwadi Party is a socialist political party in India. It was founded on 4 October 1992 by former Janata Dal politician Mulayam Singh Yadav and is headquartered in New Delhi. The Samajwadi Party is currently led by former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav.

Akhilesh Yadav is an Indian politician and national president of the Samajwadi Party who served as the 20th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Having assumed the chief minister's office on 15 March 2012 at the age of 38, he is the youngest person to have held the office till date. Yadav is the Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly since March 2022, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Kannauj in the 18th Lok Sabha, and an elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly for Karhal in the 18th Vidhan Sabha. Yadav resigned from Karhal as from MLA position.

The Vidhan Parishad is a permanent house, consisting of 100 members.
Mohammad Azam Khan is an Indian politician, lawyer and elected representative who has served as the Member of Parliament from Rampur. He is one of the founding members of the Samajwadi Party and was a member of the Seventeenth Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh. He was also the senior most Cabinet Minister in the Government of Uttar Pradesh and has been elected member of the legislative assembly ten times from Rampur assembly constituency. He was disqualified from his elected seat when he received a two-year prison sentence from the court.
Dara Singh Chauhan is an Indian politician, currently serving as member of legislative council, and formerly represented the Madhuban in Uttar Pradesh as a member of Bharatiya Janata Party. He was former Cabinet Minister in Yogi Adityanath ministry. He also represented Ghosi in the 15th Lok Sabha, where he was leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party. In 16th Lok Sabha, he was defeated by Harinarayan Rajbhar who represented Bharatiya Janata Party by more than 140,000 votes.
Noorpur Assembly constituency is one of the 403 constituencies of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, India. It is a part of the Bijnor district and one of the five assembly constituencies in the Nagina Lok Sabha constituency. The first election in this assembly constituency was held in 1967 after the delimitation order was passed in 1964. The constituency ceased to exist in 1976 when the delimitation order was passed. In 2008, the constituency was again created when "Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 2008" was passed.

The election to the 17th Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was held from 11 February to 8 March 2017 in 7 phases. This election saw a voter turnout of 61.11% compared to 59.40% in the previous election. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the election by an overwhelming three-quarters majority of 325 seats despite not projecting a chief ministerial candidate before the election. As part of its election strategy, BJP contested under a collective leadership and capitalised mostly on the political clout and 'brand' of its leader Narendra Modi.
Ashutosh Tandon, also known as Gopal Tandon, was an Indian politician and was Minister of Urban Development, Overall Urban Development, Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation in the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Tandon was also a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Lucknow East constituency in Lucknow district. He was son of BJP's senior leader and former Governor of Madhya Pradesh Lal Ji Tandon.
Rakesh Singh Baghel is an Indian politician and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was a member of 17th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh of India representing the Menhdawal assembly in Sant Kabir Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. He was not made a candidate in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election as BJP gave Menhdawal constituency to its National Democratic Alliance partner NISHAD Party.

Akash Saxena is an Indian politician. He represents the Rampur Assembly constituency of Uttar Pradesh, India. He won the assembly Rampur by-election in December 2022, defeating Samajwadi Party candidate Asim Raza by more than 33,000 votes.
Awadhesh Prasad is an Indian politician serving as the Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Faizabad and a founding member of the Samajwadi Party (SP). He is presently the general secretary of the national executive of SP and he was a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly till 4 June 2024 when he was elected as an MP. He has been a nine time MLA elected from the erstwhile Sohawal (SC) constituency in 1977, 1985, 1989, 1993, 1996, 2002 and 2007 and as of latest from Milkipur (SC) in 2012 and 2022. He has become a minister for six times in the Government of Uttar Pradesh and been a cabinet minister in four of them.
