Vamsee Juluri (born 1969) is a professor of media studies at the University of San Francisco. [1]
Juluri was born in Hyderabad in 1969. [2] His mother is the Telugu film actress Jamuna, [3] and his father was Juluri Ramana Rao,a professor of zoology.[ citation needed ] Juluri studied at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and received a PhD in 1999.[ citation needed ] He has written for several publications including Times of India, [4] Huffington Post, [5] and The Indian Express . [6] His research interest is in the globalization of media audiences with an emphasis on Indian television and cinema, [7] mythology,religion, [8] violence and Gandhian philosophy. He has published several papers and essays analyzing recurring themes in Bollywood,such as tradition [9] and violence. [10]
Juluri was the lead petitioner in the effort by academics of Indian origin against efforts to address the countries of historical British India as "South Asia" in textbooks put forth by the California Board of Education,(California textbook controversy over Hindu history). As a result of his efforts which became a mass movement led to review and dismissal of several changes to the History Social Science Frameworks (Syllabus). [11] [12]

Mayabazar is a 1957 Indian epic Hindu mythological film directed by K. V. Reddy. It was produced by Nagi Reddi and Chakrapani under their banner,Vijaya Productions. The film was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil,with a few differences in the cast. The story is an adaptation of the folk tale Sasirekha Parinayam,which is based on the characters of the epic Mahabharata. It revolves around the roles of Krishna and Ghatotkacha,as they try to reunite Arjuna's son Abhimanyu with his love,Balarama's daughter (Savitri). The Telugu version features Gummadi,Mukkamala,Ramana Reddy,and Relangi in supporting roles,with D. Balasubramaniam,R. Balasubramaniam,V. M. Ezhumalai,and K. A. Thangavelu playing those parts in the Tamil version.
Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! also known by the initialism HAHK,is a 1994 Indian Hindi-language musical romantic drama film written and directed by Sooraj Barjatya and produced by Rajshri Productions. The film stars Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan and celebrates Indian wedding traditions by means of a story of a married couple and the relationship between their families;a story about sacrificing one's love for one's family. The basic plot is based on studio's earlier film Nadiya Ke Paar (1982),which was based on Keshav Prasad Mishra's Hindi novel Kohbar Ki Shart. The film features music by Raamlaxman who also composed a 14-song soundtrack,an unusually large number of songs for that period.

Navaratri is an annual Hindu festival observed in the honour of the goddess Durga also referred to as Adi Parashakti. It spans over nine nights,first in the month of Chaitra,and again in the month of Ashwin (September–October). It is observed for different reasons and celebrated differently in various parts of the Hindu Indian cultural sphere. Theoretically,there are four seasonal Navaratri. However,in practice,it is the post-monsoon autumn festival called Sharada Navaratri.
In 2016 and 2017,there was a significant debate on how topics related to South Asia were represented in California middle school textbooks—a follow-up to a related set of debates that took place from 2005 to 2009. These new debates were fueled by varying religious groups who felt the 2009 changes were incorrect,or pushed political agendas. The California Department of Education runs a public process to update the history and social sciences curriculum frameworks,which help guide the textbooks that publishers develop for students. Starting in 2016,groups submitted textbook revisions dealing with a variety of issues related to histories of South Asia,India,Hinduism,Sikhism,Dalits,Muslims,Ravidassias,the Indus Valley civilization,and the rights of women,as taught in California 6th and 7th grade history and social science textbooks. The Department of Education made final decisions on the topics in 2017,retaining content on the caste system,and referring to all of historical South Asia as India,among many other decisions.
Audrey Truschke is a historian of South Asia and an associate professor at Rutgers University. Her work focuses on inter-community relations in medieval South Asia,especially during the Mughal Empire. In 2017,she was conferred with the John F. Richards Prize in South Asian History by American Historical Association.
