Vavae Malepeai (born January 28, 1998) is a former American football running back. Malepeai played for the USC Trojans.

Early years

Malepeai was born in 1998 in Aiea, Hawaii. He played football at Mililani High School where he became one of the best running backs in Hawaii high school football history. [1] He concluded his high school career with more rushing yards than any other player in state history. [2]

College career

Malepeai enrolled at the University of Southern California in 2017. He was redshirted as a true freshman after suffering a broken shoulder blade in training camp. Despite having his season shortened due to injury, he led the 2019 USC Trojans football team with 503 rushing yards in eight games. [3] His 2019 season was cut short by a knee injury. [4] Malepeai later revealed that he had injured the knee in before the season began and played hurt, hoping he could fight through it. [5]

In 2020, he again led USC in rushing yardage. [2] [6]

Personal life

A native of Hawaii, his three uncles, Silila, Tasi and Pulou Malepeai, all played college football for the Oregon Ducks. [7]

In April of 2024 he became engaged to Anna Smith a former USC women’s soccer team goalkeeper. They plan to wed in 2025.

The 2019 UCLA Bruins football team represented the University of California, Los Angeles in the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Bruins play their home games at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. UCLA competed as a member of the South Division of the Pac-12 Conference. The team was led by second-year head coach Chip Kelly. The Bruins began the season 1–5 before winning three straight games. However, the Bruins then lost their final three games of the season. They finished the season 4–8 overall and 4–5 in Pac-12 play, tying Arizona State for third place in the Pac-12 South Division, and were outscored by their opponents by a combined total of 417 to 320. The Bruins' average attendance at home was 43,848, their lowest since 1982 when they moved to the Rose Bowl.

Fred Crutcher is a former American football tailback. He played for the USC Trojans from 1981 to 1985. He tore ligaments in his left knee in 1982 and was slowed by the injury in 1983. He was the lead running back for the 1984 team, totaling 1,155 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He was described as "a pounding type who endures punishment and is always heading upfield, but seldom breaks long runs." He became known by the nickname "Four-Yard Freddie". In five years at USC, he totaled 2,815 rushing yards and scored 21 touchdowns.

Dillon Gabriel is an American football quarterback for the Oregon Ducks.

Kana'i Mauga is an American football linebacker for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the USC Trojans and was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
