Wake Technical Community College (Wake Tech) is a public community college in Raleigh, North Carolina. Its first location, Southern Wake Campus, opened in 1963. [3] Wake Tech now operates multiple campuses throughout Wake County. [4] The largest community college in North Carolina, [2] Wake Tech is part of the North Carolina Community College System and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, now with another 10 campuses upcoming with 11.
Wake Tech was chartered in 1958 as the Wake County Industrial Education Center. [5] The school opened its doors on October 7, 1963, with 304 enrolled students, 34 in curriculum studies on campus and 270 in industrial training programs.
Wake Tech established an athletics program in 2008. [6] Tech Athletics includes nine teams: men's baseball; women's softball and volleyball; men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, and men's and women's soccer. [7] Wake Tech's mascot is an eagle named Talon and sponsors a co-ed cheerleading and mascot team. The college is a member of Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association. ESports is now apart of the sporting system, the uprising of gaming sports is gaining popularity very fast.
Salem College is a private women's liberal arts college in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Founded in 1772 as a primary school, it later became an academy and ultimately added the college. The Wolfpack competes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for all sports since the 1953–54 season. NC State is a founding member of the ACC and has won eleven national championships: five NCAA championships, two AIAW championships, and four titles under other sanctioning bodies.
