Walton County School District is a school district headquartered in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. [1] Its boundary is that of Walton County. [2]

History

From the 2017-2018 school year to the 2021-2022 school year, the school district received "A" ratings from the Florida Department of Education based on state testing measures. [3] As of 2022, the district had the third highest accountability scores of Florida school districts, and was on the state's "High Academic Performance" list. [4]

By 2021, due to an increasing number of students in the district, the district purchased land in the south of the county so another school could be built. [5]

In 2022 Florida Citizens Alliance made a list of books which it deemed objectionable, many of which were related to LGBTQI themes. The Walton County district used the list to remove library books. [6]

The college also operates a charter high school, the Collegiate High School at Northwest Florida State College, which opened in 2000.

Walton-DeFuniak Library is a historic library located at 3 Circle Drive, in DeFuniak Springs, Walton County, Florida in the United States. Opened in 1887, it is the oldest continuously run library in the state. It is a contributing property in the DeFuniak Springs Historic District. The City of DeFuniak Springs and the commissioner’s office of the city donate funds to the Walton-DeFuniak library in order to keep the library running for patron benefit. While the original Walton-DeFuniak library was opened in 1886, there has been some debate as to exactly which library is the oldest in the state of Florida. Historians will say that the oldest library in Florida is actually located in St. Augustine.

Bay District Schools (BDS) is a school district headquartered in Panama City, Florida, United States with 48 schools, 26,199 students, and 1,700 teachers, ranking it number 16 in the state for size. The district serves all of Bay County except for Mexico Beach, which is served by Gulf County Schools. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed former Panama City, Florida City Manager Mark McQueen, a retired U.S. Army Major General to the position in August 2023 after the previous superintendent Bill Husfelt retired early in his term after being elected to the board in 2008.

DeFuniak Springs Airport is a public-use airport located two nautical miles (3.7 km) west of the central business district of the city of DeFuniak Springs in Walton County, Florida, United States. The airport is publicly owned and operated by the City of DeFuniak Springs and serves the general aviation transportation needs of the City and Walton County. In addition to private and recreational flying, the airport also supports business and corporate aviation. The airport is situated on 343 acres of land located approximately 2.5 miles west of the City's Central Business District.

Walton High School is a public high school in DeFuniak Springs, Walton County, Florida operated by the Walton County School District. Walton High School opened a new school building in 2010 after the school district approved the facility. The new building was built next to the previous facility which is now the WISE Center for alternative education. The school's athletic teams' mascot are the Braves. The school is located at 449 Walton Road in DeFuniak Springs.

South Walton High School is a public high school in Santa Rosa Beach, Walton County, Florida operated by the Walton County School District. It is located at 645 Greenway Trail The school's teams compete as the Seahawks.
