Waveform: The MKBHD Podcast (also referred to as Waveform or WVFRM) is a podcast hosted by American YouTuber Marques Brownlee, with Andrew Manganelli, and David Imel. The podcast focuses on consumer electronics news and products along with discussions on videos uploaded to Brownlee's channel. [1] A number of episodes have involved interviews with YouTube creators and prominent figures in the tech community. To wrap each episode the hosts compete in trivia, or interviewed guests complete a timed typing test.

Background

Marques Brownlee, the creator of the popular technology-focused MKBHD YouTube channel, started the podcast to share "behind the scene tips" and "unfiltered takes". [2] Andrew Manganelli is the co-host of the podcast and has been a producer for the MKBHD YouTube channel since January 2017. [3] David Imel, formerly a regular guest and contributor, joined later as the third co-host. The podcast is produced by Adam Molina and Ellis Rovin.

Waveform is part of the Vox Media podcast network. The first episode was aired on Apple Podcasts and Spotify on July 31, 2019, and was a short 48-second announcement of the creation of the podcast. A week later, the first full length episode aired on August 9, 2019, followed by an announcement on the MKBHD YouTube channel on August 13, 2019. [4]

Guests

Technology YouTuber Quinn from SnazzyLabs was the first guest on the podcast, appearing on the episode that aired October 4, 2019. Several technology company executives have appeared as guests, including Craig Federighi, Carl Pei, Chris Cox, Panos Panay, and Wallace Santos and Ron Reed from Maingear. [5] [6] An uncut interview with Mark Zuckerberg was uploaded after an edited version was uploaded to the MKBHD YouTube channel for the "Talking Tech" video series.

Release

All Waveform podcast episodes made before May 7, 2021, are audio only and are released on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts. [2] However, video highlights from an interview with Craig Federighi have been uploaded to the MKBHD YouTube channel. [7]

Starting from May 7, 2021, the podcasts also became available in a video format with the launch of the Waveform YouTube channel. However, audio versions would continue to be available. [8] Shorter segments of the video podcasts also became available on the Waveform Clips channel starting on May 7, 2021.

Reception

Brownlee was a finalist for Best Podcaster from the 2020 12th Shorty Awards for work on the Waveform Podcast. [9]

His main YouTube channel, nigahiga, was the most subscribed channel on YouTube for 677 consecutive days from 2009 to 2011, an achievement that has only been surpassed by PewDiePie and T-Series. Higa was the first person to reach the milestones of 2 million and 3 million subscribers on YouTube. Higa launched a podcast in 2018 called Off the Pill, which has featured YouTubers and celebrities such as KevJumba, Andrew Yang, and Jeremy Lin. In 2020, Higa started streaming on Twitch, where he reacts to his past videos and broadcasts video game content, most notably in Valorant.

<i>The Joe Rogan Experience</i> American podcast

The Joe Rogan Experience is a podcast hosted by American comedian, presenter, and UFC color commentator Joe Rogan. It launched on December 24, 2009, on YouTube by Rogan and comedian Brian Redban, who was its sole co-host and producer until 2012 when Jamie Vernon, who would eventually take over production, was hired to co-produce. By 2015, it was one of the world's most popular podcasts, regularly receiving millions of views per episode, also including a wide array of guests, including business magnate Elon Musk, whistleblower Edward Snowden, Senator Bernie Sanders, and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. From December 2020 to February 2024, the podcast was exclusively available on Spotify, with highlights uploaded onto the main Joe Rogan Experience YouTube channel. The podcast was originally recorded at Rogan's home in California, before moving to a private studio in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles. Production was relocated to Austin, Texas after the podcast was exclusively licensed on Spotify in 2020.

Mark Edward Fischbach, known online as Markiplier, is an American YouTuber, actor and filmmaker. He mainly uploads Let's Plays and is known for his videos of indie horror games. After joining YouTube in 2012, Fischbach became popular on the platform with Let's Plays of Amnesia: The Dark Descent (2010) and the Five Nights at Freddy's series. As of March 2024, his channel has over 36 million subscribers.

Vic Gundotra, a former senior vice president of Google, called Brownlee "the best technology reviewer on the planet right now". At the 10th Shorty Awards in 2019, he was named "Creator of the Decade" The former name of his YouTube channel is a concatenation of MKB and HD. With New York PoNY, he is the 2022 WFDF World Champion in the Open Category for ultimate Frisbee.

Revision3 was a San Francisco–based multi-channel television network that created, produced and distributed streaming television shows on niche topics. Founded in 2005, it operated as a subsidiary of Discovery Digital Networks since 2012. The network produced technology and gaming oriented programming in tandem with traditional comedic, political, DIY, and movie-related content. On March 31, 2017, Discovery Communications closed the website.

The Last Podcast on the Left is a weekly podcast on the Last Podcast Network featuring podcast producer and researcher Marcus Parks, comedian and actor Henry Zebrowski, and comedian Ed Larson, three longtime friends. Episodes have explored the topics of serial killers, cults, conspiracy theories, UFO sightings, ghosts, cryptids, the occult, and readings of fan-submitted creepypastas. The name is a reference to the 1972 horror movie The Last House on the Left.

UNHhhh is an American comedy web series starring drag queens Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova. In the series, Trixie and Katya discuss a topic humorously in front of a green screen. UNHhhh premiered on March 25, 2016, one year after Mattel and Zamolodchikova appeared in the seventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race. The show is aired through World Of Wonder's YouTube channel, as well as through its video-on-demand service WOW Presents Plus. Safwan AhmedMia, better known by his stage name SuperSaf, is a British technology reviewer and Internet personality best known for his technology-based YouTube channel, SuperSaf TV, which has over 2 million subscribers and over 428 million total video views.

He is a co-host on the comedy podcast TMG alongside Cody Ko. As of July 2023, he has 4.9 million subscribers across three YouTube channels. He began on YouTube in August 2015, uploading comedy sketches. He gained popularity uploading a series of reaction videos with Ko named That's Cringe, as well as playing the Love Island mobile game. The duo uploaded their first episode of the TMG Podcast on October 27, 2017.

Austin Evans is an American YouTuber and tech blogger who creates videos on various modern technologies, such as video games, smartphones and personal computers. As of December 22, 2023, his YouTube channel has over 5.4 million subscribers and 1.3 billion views. Videos of his have been featured on technology sites such as The Verge, Eurogamer, Video Games Chronicle and Engadget.
