Wendy Colleen Phipps (born 24 November 1967) is a Kittitian politician and businesswoman. [1]

Early life and education

Phipps was born on 24 November 1967 on Saint Kitts. Her mother was from Nevis and her father from Saint Kitts. She has a B.A. in humanities/journalism (1991) from the University of the Virgin Islands and a Masters in Mass Communication (1992) from the University of Georgia. [1]

From 1994 to 2010 she was employed by the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce, becoming an executive director. In 2010 she founded her own consultancy company, Trinity Business Services/The Main Event. [1]

Political career

In February 2015 Phipps was appointed as a Senator in the National Assembly and as Minister of State with responsibility for Health, Community Development, Gender Affairs and Social Services. [1] [2] She served as Health Minister until 2020 and was then appointed as Minister of International Trade, Consumer Affairs and Labor in the Team Unity cabinet. [3] [4] [5]

In June 2023, no longer a Minister, she was elected chairperson of the People's Labour Party. [6]

Mark Anthony Graham Brantley is the Premier of Nevis, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and former Minister of Foreign Affairs for St Kitts and Nevis. On May 10, 2022, Dr Timothy Harris, having lost the support of the elected majority to function as Prime Minister and facing a historic Motion of No Confidence in the National Parliament, decided to dissolve the Parliament and purported to revoke the appointment of more than 50% of his former Cabinet, including the Hon Mark Brantley. Brantley previously served as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly of Saint Kitts and Nevis . He is married and has 2 daughters. Brantley read law at the University of the West Indies, obtained his Legal Education Certificate of Merit from Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica and also holds a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford, St. Catherine College. Prior to entering politics, Brantley worked as an attorney.

Anne Liburd also known as Ann Liburd was a Kittitian women’s rights activist and community organizer. She served as president of the National Council of Women in St. Kitts and was the first and then three-time president of the Caribbean Women’s Association. She headed several programs to develop women's entrepreneurial skills and then served as the first president of the Federation of Labour Women, a political affiliation of the Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party to help women gain leadership and communication skills.

Dame Marcella Althea Liburd is a Kittitian politician who is the fifth governor-general of Saint Kitts and Nevis, serving since 2023. Trained as a teacher and then as a barrister and solicitor, Liburd was the first woman to serve as both the Speaker of the National Assembly of Saint Kitts and Nevis and the Governor-General, as well as the first Governor-General appointed by Charles III. She has served in various Ministerial positions including Acting Prime Minister and Chair of the Opposition for the Labour Party. She was the first woman to serve as Chair in the 81-year-old organization’s history.

Dame Constance Viola Mitcham, is a politician in Saint Kitts and Nevis. She was the first woman elected to the National Assembly for that country. She was also the first woman to serve as acting prime minister for the country.
