Wind Lea was built in 1815 by Edward McCarty and his sons and is the oldest building in Keyser. The structure played an important role during the Civil War when it served both as a prison and a hospital. [1] The home is now divided into private residences.

Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia Place

The Eastern Panhandle is the eastern of the two panhandles in the U.S. state of West Virginia. It is a small stretch of territory in the northeast of the state, bordering Maryland and Virginia. Some sources and regional associations only identify the Eastern Panhandle as being composed of Morgan, Berkeley, and Jefferson counties. Berkeley and Jefferson counties are geographically located in the Shenandoah Valley. West Virginia is the only U.S. state with two panhandles; the other is the Northern Panhandle.

New Creek

New Creek is an 18.4-mile-long (29.6 km) stream in eastern West Virginia. It is the third major West Virginia tributary to the North Branch Potomac River. Via the Potomac, it is part of the watershed of Chesapeake Bay.

Longs Island is an island on the North Branch Potomac River nearly one mile long and contains the Long family farm, and is known for the corn it produces from the rich river silt laden soil. Longs Island lies in Allegany County Maryland, but is only accessible from Mineral County, West Virginia near Keyser. The island lies across the North Branch from McCoole, Maryland, but is in Maryland as the state boundary is the low water mark on the West Virginia side of the river.

Mill Creek is an 8.7-mile-long (14.0 km) tributary stream of Patterson Creek in Mineral County, West Virginia. It is also known as Mill Run.

Limestone Run is a 4.6-mile-long (7.4 km) stream that lies to the east of New Creek Mountain in Mineral County, West Virginia. It is a tributary of the North Branch Potomac River.
