The ZCMI Center Mall was a shopping center near Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States that was owned by Zions Securities Corporation (now Utah Property Management Associates), which opened in 1975 and closed in 2007. At the time of its opening, it was the largest downtown mall in the country. [1] ZCMI stands for Zion's Co-operative Mercantile Institution, which refers to a department store owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) that had locations in Utah and Idaho until it was sold to The May Department Stores Company. The ZCMI Center Mall, along with the affiliated Crossroads Plaza Mall, once constituted the largest shopping area in Salt Lake City.
On October 3, 2006, the LDS Church announced redevelopment plans for the ZCMI Center and Crossroads Plaza malls, as part of a $1 billion redevelopment plan known as the City Creek Center. [2] The plan called for the demolition of the ZCMI Center Mall and the Crossroads Plaza Mall by the end of summer 2008.
Demolition of the entire project area started in November 2006, beginning with the Inn at Temple Square and the Crossroads Plaza Mall. The replacement City Creek Center opened in 2012. [3]
One of the features of the ZCMI Center was a large glass chandelier that hung in the former ZCMI store. The chandelier, which was made of Austrian glass and handblown crystal imported from Venice, Italy, weighed 3 tons and was made exclusively for this store when it opened in 1975. Macy's, the new owner of the store, donated 1,500 pieces of the dismantled chandelier to various charitable organizations. [4]
Zion's Co-operative Mercantile Institution was an American department store chain. It was founded in Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 9, 1868, by Brigham Young. For many years it used the slogan, "America's First Department Store."

Founded in 1850, it was the first newspaper to be published in Utah. The publication's name is from the geographic area of Deseret identified by Utah's pioneer settlers, and much of the publication's reporting is rooted in that region.
Originally, the Salt Lake Valley was inhabited by the Shoshone, Paiute, Goshute and Ute Native American tribes. At the time of the founding of Salt Lake City the valley was within the territory of the Northwestern Shoshone, who had their seasonal camps along streams within the valley and in adjacent valleys. One of the local Shoshone tribes, the Western Goshute tribe, referred to the Great Salt Lake as Pi'a-pa, meaning "big water", or Ti'tsa-pa, meaning "bad water". The land was treated by the United States as public domain; no aboriginal title by the Northwestern Shoshone was ever recognized by the United States or extinguished by treaty with the United States. Father Silvestre Vélez de Escalante, a Spanish Franciscan missionary is considered the first European explorer in the area in 1776, but only came as far north as Utah valley (Provo), some 60 miles south of the Salt Lake City area. The first US visitor to see the Salt Lake area was Jim Bridger in 1824. U.S. Army officer John C. Frémont surveyed the Great Salt Lake and the Salt Lake Valley in 1843 and 1845. The Donner Party, a group of ill-fated pioneers, traveled through the Great Salt Lake Valley a year before the Mormon pioneers. This group had spent weeks traversing difficult terrain and brush, cutting a road through the Wasatch Mountains, coming through Emigration canyon into the Salt Lake Valley on August 12, 1846. This same path would be used by the vanguard company of Mormon pioneers, and for many years after that by those following them to Salt Lake.

Deseret Book is a for-profit corporation registered in Utah. Deseret Book publishes under four imprints with media ranging from works explaining LDS theology and doctrine, LDS-related fiction, electronic resources, and sound recordings such as The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square albums.
The economy of Salt Lake City, Utah is primarily service-oriented. While nearby Bingham Canyon Mine provided a strong source of income during the 19th century, the city has evolved to an economy built on transit hubs, call centers, and seasonal tourism. The 2002 Olympic Winter Games gave a great boost to the area's economy. Many hotels and restaurants were built for the 2002 Olympics, and although many survive, they have suffered post-Olympic market saturation.

Boise Towne Square is a mall in the western United States, located in Boise, Idaho. The largest retail complex in the state, it opened in 1988 after more than 20 years of planning, and features 150 stores, with Macy's, JCPenney, Kohl's and Dillard's as anchor stores. The mall also includes the first Apple Store in Idaho. Boise Towne Square is owned by the Chicago-based Brookfield Properties and is located near the junction of Interstate 84 and Interstate 184.

They manage major corporate, residential, and retail spaces along with parking lots and plazas.
University Place, previously known as University Mall, is a single-story shopping mall located in Orem, Utah, United States. It currently has three anchor stores: Dillard's, RC Willey, and Al's Sporting Goods. The mall is owned and managed by Woodbury Corporation. With 1,500,000 square feet (140,000 m2) of retail space and 5,400 parking spaces, it was once the largest shopping mall in Utah.
The City Creek Center (CCC) is a mixed-use development with an upscale open-air shopping center, office and residential buildings, fountain, and simulated creek near Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. It is an undertaking by Property Reserve, Inc. (PRI), the commercial real estate division of the Corporation of the President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Taubman Centers, Inc. (TCI). The CCC integrates shopping and residential elements, with foliage-lined walkways and streams covering two blocks in the heart of downtown Salt Lake. PRI invested in the housing and parking elements of the mall, while TCI owns and operates the shopping center itself. The CCC opened to the general public on March 22, 2012. This shopping, office, and residential center encompass nearly 20 acres (8.1 ha) of downtown Salt Lake City. The City Creek Center is part of an estimated $5 billion sustainable design project to revitalize downtown Salt Lake City. The CCC project itself has been estimated to cost around $1.5 billion.
Valley Fair Mall is a 831,667-square-foot (77,264.4 m2) single-level regional shopping center located in West Valley City, Utah, United States. Anchor stores are All Star Bowling & Entertainment, Hobby Lobby, JCPenney, Megaplex Theatres, Old Navy, Ross Dress For Less, and Ulta Beauty.
Crossroads Plaza was a shopping mall in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, United States that operated from 1980 to 2007, before being demolished to make way for City Creek Center mall. The mall covered the majority of block 76, which is bounded by Main Street on the east, South Temple on the north, West Temple on the west, and 100 South on the south.
The Triad Center is a complex of office buildings in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. Originally planned as a large development, containing several office and residential buildings, the project was canceled after only two phases were completed. From 2017 to the present it houses BYU–Pathway Worldwide, Ensign College, the BYU Salt Lake Center, offices of the Deseret News and the studios of KSL-TV and KSL Radio. The landlord and prominent tenants are affiliated in one way or another with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Cottonwood Mall was an enclosed shopping mall in Holladay, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. It was the first large indoor shopping mall in the state. It was built and owned until 1985 by Horman construction, when it was sold to John Price and Associates, then sold again later to General Growth Properties.

Cache Valley Mall was a shopping mall located in Logan, Utah that opened in 1976 and closed in April 2024. The mall had three anchors last occupied by C-A-L Ranch, Herberger's and JCPenney. The mall site is owned by Namdar Realty Group.
