1. deild kvenna (English: Women's first division) is the second-tier basketball competition among clubs in Iceland.
The league was founded 1984 and until 2005 it was known as 2. deild kvenna (English: Women's second division).
On 13 March 2020, the rest of the 2019–20 season was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak in Iceland. [1]
The team with the best record is crowned first division champion. The top two teams then play a best–of–three playoff for a promotion to the Úrvalsdeild. [2]

1. deild karla or D1 is the second-tier basketball competition among clubs in Iceland. It is organized by the Icelandic Basketball Federation . The season consists of a home-and-away schedule of 18 games, followed by a four-team playoff round. Both semifinals and finals series are best-of-three. The top team from the regular-season phase and the four-team playoff round winner are promoted to the Úrvalsdeild karla. The bottom club is relegated, and replaced by the four-team playoff round winner of the third-tier 2. deild karla.
Ragnar Ágúst Nathanaelsson is an Icelandic basketball player who plays for Hamar. He participated at EuroBasket 2015 as a member of the Icelandic national team. He is a two time Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First team selection and won the Icelandic Basketball Cup in 2022.
Helena Sverrisdóttir is an Icelandic former basketball player. Generally considered the greatest Icelandic female basketball player of all time, she was named the Icelandic Women's Basketball Player of the Year 12 times. During her playing career, she won the Icelandic championship five times and the Slovak championship two times.
Sanja Orozović is Serbian-Hungarian professional basketball player who plays for Spartak Subotica. In 2018, she won the Women Adriatic Basketball Association championship with Budućnost Bemax. In 2020, she won the Icelandic Super Cup with Skallagrímur.
The Women's Domestic Player of the Year is an award for the top-tier basketball league in Iceland, the women's Úrvalsdeild.
The Women's Young Player of the Year is an annual Úrvalsdeild kvenna honor bestowed on the best young player in the league following every season.
Sigrún Sjöfn Ámundadóttir is an Icelandic former basketball player. During her career, she has won the Icelandic championship two times, in 2006 and 2007, and the Icelandic Basketball Cup four times. She is the Úrvalsdeild kvenna all-time career leader in rebounds and games played and in the league's top four in scoring, assists and steals.
Sigtryggur Arnar Björnsson is an Icelandic basketball player who plays for Tindastóll of the Úrvalsdeild karla and the Icelandic national basketball team. He won the Icelandic championship in 2023 and the Icelandic Cup in 2018 with Tindastóll.
Fanney Lind Guðmundsdóttir Thomas is an Icelandic former basketball player. She is a former member of the Icelandic national basketball team.

She won the Icelandic championship with Haukar in 2018 while also being named to the Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team and finishing third in the selection of the Icelandic Women's Basketball Player of the Year. She won the Danish championship ind 2022 and 2023 and the Danish Cup in 2022 with AKS Falcon.

It concluded on 2 June 2021 with Valur winning their second title after beating Haukar 3–0 in the Úrvalsdeild finals.

Dagný Lísa Davíðsdóttir is an Icelandic basketball player who plays for Grindavík of the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild kvenna. She played college basketball for Niagara University and later the University of Wyoming. She was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year in 2022 after leading Fjölnir to its best record in history.
Eva Margrét Kristjánsdóttir is an Icelandic basketball player who currently plays for Keilor Thunder and the Icelandic national basketball team. She won the Icelandic championship with Snæfell in 2014 and the Icelandic Cup three times from 2021 to 2023 with Haukar. A two-time Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team selection, she was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year in 2023.
