Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez was a Colombian writer and journalist, known affectionately as Gabo or Gabito throughout Latin America. Considered one of the most significant authors of the 20th century, particularly in the Spanish language, he was awarded the 1972 Neustadt International Prize for Literature and the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature. He pursued a self-directed education that resulted in leaving law school for a career in journalism. From early on he showed no inhibitions in his criticism of Colombian and foreign politics. In 1958, he married Mercedes Barcha Pardo; they had two sons, Rodrigo and Gonzalo. It is a lesser known fact that Gabriel had a daughter with Mexican writer Susana Cato, part of an extramarital affair. They named her Indira, and she took her mother's last name.

The Macondo Awards are given by the Colombian Academy of Cinematography Arts and Sciences to honor achievement in Colombian cinema.

The Colombian Academy of Cinematography Arts and Sciences is an industry association in Colombia founded in 2009. Each year the academy present the Macondo Awards to award achievements in the film industry. The academy also selects Colombian films to represent the country in other annual awards and festivals, such as the Academy Awards.

The 1st Macondo Awards ceremony, presented by the Colombian Academy of Cinematography Arts and Sciences, honored the best audiovisual productions of 2010. It took place on October 21, 2010, at the Jorge Eliécer Gaitán Theatre in Bogotá. The ceremony awarded 12 categories and was broadcast by Señal Colombia.

The film premiered in September 2022 at the 70th San Sebastián International Film Festival where it won the Golden Shell for Best Picture.

The Other Shape is a 2022 Colombian-Brazilian adult animated science fiction film written and directed by Diego Felipe Guzmán in his directorial debut. It won the award for best animated feature film at the Sitges Film Festival in 2022, and the same year received a nomination for the Contrachamp award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and the award for best feature film at the Chilemonos International Animation Festival. According to the newspaper El Colombiano, the film "used the frame-by-frame technique with more than 60,480 drawings or frames to achieve [its] story". It was commercially released on March 30, 2023 in Colombian theaters.

It is about a teenager who will have to face the ferocity of his neighborhood where the codes of masculinity and the law of the strongest is mandatory to survive. It is a co-production between Colombia, Germany, France and the Netherlands.
