14th Independent Engineers Brigade is an independent brigade formation of Bangladesh Army. It operates under the direct command of Army Headquarters and is primarily based at Dhaka Cantonment. The brigade provides specialized engineering support, including infrastructure construction, bridging, mine warfare, and disaster response, while also participating in internal security operations.
The 14th Independent Engineers Brigade was established in 1972 after Independence of Bangladesh. Around then, the brigade reflected the Army's emphasis on enhancing engineering assets for both wartime and peacetime roles, particularly in the capital region. Specific details on its raising date remain limited in public records, but it has been an active component of the Army's structure since at least the early 2010s. [1]
The brigade's primary roles include: providing engineering expertise for military operations, civil works, and humanitarian assistance. It has been involved in international military cooperation, such as joint activities with the U.S. Army's 5th Security Force Assistance Brigade during Bijoy Dibosh celebrations in 2022, where it hosted tours and demonstrations. [2]
In domestic operations, the brigade has supported urban development projects, including a 2022 initiative to reclaim encroached canals in Dhaka under the direction of the city mayor, involving eviction and restoration efforts. [3]
The unit has also played a key role in law enforcement operations. In November 2024, it led a joint task force raid in Dhaka's Korail Bosti area, arresting nine top drug traffickers wanted in multiple cases. [4] More recently, on 23 October 2025, the brigade conducted a special operation in Shukrabad, Dhaka, resulting in the arrest of an arms supplier. [5]
