The Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA) is a learned society for geological science that was founded in 1895, making it one of the oldest such societies in Africa. The GSSA publishes the peer-reviewed scientific journal, the South African Journal of Geology, and annually awards the Draper Memorial Medal to recognise achievement in geology, and the Des Pretorius Memorial Award to recognise exceptional work on economic geology in Africa. The GSSA collaborates internationally with other professional organizations such as the European Federation of Geologists (EFG).
South Africa, officially the Republic of South Africa (RSA), is the southernmost country in Africa. The Democratic Party was a South African political party formed in 1973 by former Interior Minister Theo Gerdener after he broke away from the ruling National Party. The party hoped to be a rallying point for the verligte (enlightened) Nationalists who had grown disillusioned with the hardline apartheid government of John Vorster and attracted support from younger Afrikaners. The party advocated liberalizing the country's apartheid laws to some degree and emancipating Asian and "Coloured" South Africans and had a goal of re-establishing South Africa as a confederation of ethnic groupings.

The National People's Party was a South African political party founded in 1981 by Amichand Rajbansi. It participated in political structures established for Indian South Africans during the apartheid era: first the South African Indian Council, and then the House of Delegates in the Tricameral Parliament.

Solomon Lechesa Tsenoli is a South African politician who served as the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2014 to 2024. He served as acting Speaker from 25 March to 14 June 2024, when Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula took leave over corruption allegations. She subsequently resigned on the 3rd of April.
