The 184th Division (Chinese :第184师) was created in February 1949 under the Regulation of the Redesignations of All Organizations and Units of the Army, issued by Central Military Commission on November 1, 1948, [1] basing on the 43rd Brigade, 15th Column of Huabei Military Region. Its history could be traced to 18th Military Sub-district of Taiyue Military District formed in 1946.
Chinese is a group of related, but in many cases not mutually intelligible, language varieties, forming the Sinitic branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. Chinese is spoken by the Han majority and many minority ethnic groups in China. About 1.2 billion people speak some form of Chinese as their first language.
The division was composed of 550th, 551th and 552th Infantry Regiments. As a part of 61st Corps the division took part in the Chinese Civil War.
The Chinese Civil War was a war fought between the Kuomintang (KMT)-led government of the Republic of China and the Communist Party of China (CPC). Although particular attention is paid to the four years of Chinese Communist Revolution from 1945 to 1949, the war actually started in August 1927, with the White Terror at the end of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek's Northern Expedition, and essentially ended when major hostilities between the two sides ceased in 1950. The conflict took place in two stages: the first between 1927 and 1937, and the second from 1946 to 1950, with the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937–1945 separating them. The war marked a major turning point in modern Chinese history, with the Communists gaining control of mainland China and establishing the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1949, forcing the Republic of China (ROC) to retreat to Taiwan. It resulted in a lasting political and military standoff between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, with the ROC in Taiwan and the PRC in mainland China both officially claiming to be the legitimate government of all China.
From April 1950, the division was combined with Xichang Military Sub-district.
In February 1951, the division's 550th and 551st Regiment were detached from the military sub-district and formed the new 184th Division with 554th Infantry Regiment from 185th Division. Artillery Regiment, 184th Division was activated simultaneously. The division then became a part of 10th Corps. In April, the division moved to Qinhuangdao, Hebei as the reserve force of the People's Volunteer Army.
The 185th Division was created in January 1949 under the Regulation of the Redesignations of All Organizations and Units of the Army, issued by Central Military Commission on November 1, 1948, basing on the 44th Brigade, 15th Column of Huabei Military Region. Its history could be traced to 2nd Military Sub-district, Taiyue Military District of Jinjiluyu Military Region formed in August 1948.
Qinhuangdao is a port city on the coast of China in northeastern Hebei province. It is administratively a prefecture-level city, about 300 km (190 mi) east of Beijing, on the Bohai Sea, the innermost gulf of the Yellow Sea. Its population during the 2010 national census was 2,987,605, with approximately one million people living in the built-up area made up of three urban districts.
Hebei is a province of China in the North China region. The modern province was established in 1911 as Zhili Province or Chihli Province. Its one-character abbreviation is "冀" (Jì), named after Ji Province, a Han dynasty province (zhou) that included what is now southern Hebei. The name Hebei literally means "north of the river", referring to its location entirely to the north of the Yellow River.
In April 1952, the plan of deploying 10th Corps into Korea was cancelled. The 184th Divisions was then disbanded:
- Division HQ, along with HQ, 26th Tank Division and its 52nd Tank Regiment became 2nd Tank School;
- 550th Infantry Regiment was transferred to 28th Division as 54th Infantry Regiment;
- 551st Infantry Regiment was converted to 26th Engineer Regiment;
- 554th Infantry Regiment was converted to 27th Engineer Regiment.
The 26th Tank Division(Chinese: 战车第26师, note the word "战车" instead of "坦克" adapted since 1953) was formed on August 30, 1950, consisting of 51st, 52nd and 53rd Amphibious Tank Regiments.
The 28th Division was created in February 1949 under the Regulation of the Redesignations of All Organizations and Units of the Army, issued by Central Military Commission on November 1, 1948, basing on the 4th Brigade, 2nd Column of Zhongyuan Field Army.
