The club was official formed in 1923 as Ethnikos Omilos Filathlon Piraeus Faliro, and played its first competitive match in 1923 for the Piraeus Football Clubs Association championship, where they eventually lost their first title competing for from A.P.S.P. Ethnikos Piraeus was one of the founding members of Hellenic Football Federation in 1926, and is one of six clubs, including AEK Athens, PAOK, Panathinaikos, Aris Thessaloniki and Olympiacos, never to have been relegated from the league until 1990. Ethnikos Piraeus is a Greek multisport club based in Piraeus. It was founded in 1923. The full name of the club is Ethnikos Omilos Filathlon Pireos/Phalirou or Ethnikos OFPF, which means National Club of Fans of Piraeus and Phalerum. Ethnikos has sections in football, basketball, volleyball, waterpolo, swimming and field hockey. In most of these sports, Ethnikos has won titles and honours. The most successful section is the water polo, which has won many titles in both men's and women's teams. Nevertheless, the most popular is the football team, which had a remarkable tradition in the first division in the past.

Peiraikos Syndesmos or simply Peiraikos, also written Piraikos Syndesmos, is one of the oldest sports clubs in Greece, based in Piraeus. It was founded in 1894. Today Peiraikos has departments in basketball, volleyball, and track and field. The previous years it had departments in football, swimming, handball, and water polo.

The 1905–06 Panhellenic Championship was the first organised association football competition to take place in mainland Greece. It took place in March 1906. It was not organised by the HFF and as such it is not recognised by it.

1905-06 was Ethnikos' second season of organised football, competing in the second Panhellenic Championship, in which the club came first.

The 1984–85 season was PAOK Football Club's 59th in club's history and 26th consecutive in the top flight of Greek football. The team entered the Greek Football Cup in first round.

The 1975–76 season was PAOK Football Club's 50th in existence and the club's 17th consecutive season in the top flight of Greek football. The team entered the Greek Football Cup in first round, and also faced Barcelona in the UEFA Cup first round.
