The Georgia Bulldogs basketball program is the men's college basketball team representing the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. John Stroud is an American former basketball player and coach who played four years at the University of Mississippi, before being drafted by the Houston Rockets in the second round of 1980 NBA Draft as their first pick. Following his playing career Stroud coached for 32 years at various levels.

Bob Hoffman is an American college basketball coach who is currently the head coach at the University of Central Oklahoma. He is a graduate of Putnam City High School in Warr Acres, Oklahoma and went to Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee to play basketball. He met his wife there and after graduation he was hired at Piedmont High School in Piedmont, Oklahoma just northwest of Oklahoma City. He was then hired as the head women's basketball coach at Southern Nazarene University, where his team won the NAIA national championship in 1989. From there he returned to his alma mater as men's coach for the following ten years.
The Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year is a basketball award given to the Southern Conference's (SoCon) most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1951–52 season. Fred Hetzel of Davidson is the only player to have won the award three times (1963–1965). Sixteen other players have won the award twice, most recently done by Isaiah Miller of UNC Greensboro.

The 1923–24 North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team was the fourteenth varsity college basketball team to represent the University of North Carolina as a part of the Southern Conference for the NCAA season. The head coach was Norman Shepard, coaching in his first and only season with the Tar Heels. Their fast play and defense earned them the nickname the "White Phantoms", use as an alternative nickname for the Tar Heels into the 1940s.

Carl T. "Zeke" Martin was a college basketball player and coach, as well as a mechanical engineer. He was a player-coach for the Vanderbilt Commodores in 1911 and 1912. He was a forward. Charles C. Stroud selected him All-Southern in 1911. He was also an end on Dan McGugin's Vanderbilt football team. He was a native of Mobile, Alabama and is the namesake of nearby Zeke's Landing. He was once suspended from coaching the team for spending extra days on the beach in Mobile.
Hilda M. Hankerson is an American high school girls basketball coach. She is the head coach for the Westlake High School (Georgia) Lions girls basketball team where she won one National Championship and four Georgia State High School girls basketball Championships. She played for the Mercer Bears women's basketball team alongside of Hall of Famers Cindy Brogdon and Sybil Blalock from 1974 to 1978. Hankerson was also an assistant coach for the Mississippi State Bulldogs women's basketball team. In 2020, she won the USA Today 2020 Girls High School Basketball Coach of the Year.
