Bray Wanderers Football Club are an Irish association football club playing in the League of Ireland First Division. The club in its present form was founded in 1942 in Bray, and was known until 2010 as Bray Wanderers A.F.C. It was elected to the league in 1985, and plays its home matches at the Carlisle Grounds. The club's colours are green and white, and it goes by the nickname The Seagulls.

Albert Rovers F.C. were an Irish association football club based in Cork. Between 1976–77 and 1981–82 the club played in the League of Ireland. Dessie Glynn was a Republic of Ireland international footballer who played for Drumcondra and Shelbourne in the late 1940s and 1950s, scoring 111 goals in his League of Ireland career. Glynn was also Drumcondra's all-time top goalscorer with 96 goals between 1949 and 1956. Eamon Dunphy described Glynn as "a splendidly versatile centre-forward, a scorer and maker of goals". Glynn grew up in Drumcondra, Dublin, was educated at St. Vincent's C.B.S. and worked for the Irish civil service. In 1958 he spent nine months in hospital, suffering from tuberculosis – a condition which effectively ended his playing career. He later coached in New York.

The 1953–54 Oberliga was the ninth season of the Oberliga, the first tier of the football league system in West Germany and the Saar Protectorate. The league operated in five regional divisions, Berlin, North, South, Southwest and West. The five league champions and the runners-up from the south then entered the 1954 German football championship which was won by Hannover 96. It was Hannover's second national championship, having previously won it in 1938 in an epic final against FC Schalke 04 that saw two extra time games before Hannover won 4–3.
