The Dutch Eerste Divisie for the 1961/1962 season was contested by 36 teams. It was the last time the Eerste Divisie was divided into two groups, as next season there would only be one division of sixteen teams: this meant that many teams were relegated to the Tweede Divisie. Heracles won the championship after a play-off against Fortuna Vlaardingen and were promoted to the Eredivisie.

SVV relegated to Tweede Divisie.
Tweede Divisie is the highest amateur football league in the Netherlands. It was established in 1956, together with the Eredivisie and the Eerste Divisie. Between 1956 and 1960 and between 1962 and 1966, the league consisted of two divisions, Tweede Divisie A and Tweede Divisie B. The league was disbanded in 1971. Six clubs were promoted to the Eerste Divisie, while the other eleven teams became amateur clubs.
The 2004–05 season of the Eerste Divisie began in August 2004 and ended in April 2005. The title was won by Heracles Almelo.
The Dutch Eredivisie in the 1965–66 season was contested by 16 teams. Ajax won the championship. Only one team relegated this year, because next year, the number of participants would be 18 again.
The 1956–57 Eerste Divisie was the first season in the history of the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of football in the Netherlands. The league had been divided in two, with an Eerste Divisie A and an Eerste Divisie B, each comprising 16 teams. The two champions, ADO Den Haag and Blauw-Wit Amsterdam, were promoted to the Eredivisie, while the teams finishing last in each division, Emma and EBOH, both of Dordrecht, were relegated to the Tweede Divisie.

The Dutch Eerste Divisie in the 1967–68 season was contested by 19 teams, one team less than in the previous season. This was due to a merger between FC Zaanstreek and Alkmaar '54 to form AZ'67. Holland Sport won the championship.
The Dutch Eerste Divisie in the 1968–69 season was contested by 18 teams, one less than in the previous season. This was because no teams relegated from the 1967–68 Eredivisie. Schiedamse Voetbal Vereniging (SVV) won the championship.
The Dutch Eerste Divisie in the 1971–72 season was contested by 21 teams, five more than in the previous year. Due to the disbandment of the Tweede Divisie, six teams were promoted to the Eerste Divisie; the rest of the teams returned to amateur football. As a result of the disbandment, teams no longer could relegate to lower leagues. HFC Haarlem won the championship.
The Dutch Tweede Divisie in the 1956–57 season was contested by 30 teams, divided in two groups. It was the first season of the new lowest tier of Dutch professional football, organised by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB). Teams could not be relegated to amateur football. RBC and Leeuwarden won the championship and were promoted to the Eerste Divisie.
The Dutch Tweede Divisie in the 1957–58 season was contested by 29 teams, one less than in the previous season due to the voluntary return of FC Oss to amateur football. The teams were divided in two groups of fifteen and fourteen teams respectively. Teams could not be relegated to amateur football. ZFC and SC Heracles won the championships.
The Dutch Tweede Divisie in the 1959–60 season was contested by 25 teams, twelve of which playing in group A, thirteen in group B.
The Dutch Tweede Divisie in the 1961–1962 season was contested by 15 teams. This was the last season the teams would play in a single division. Due to a realignment in the Eerste Divisie, the Tweede Divisie would be expanded from one group to two, while the Eerste Divisie would become one league instead of two, meaning many teams would be relegated to this league next season.
The Dutch Tweede Divisie in the 1962–63 season was contested by 34 teams. Due to a large number of teams entering from the higher Eerste Divisie after mass relegations there, there were 22 new entrants.
The Dutch Tweede Divisie in the 1964–65 season was contested by 31 teams, sixteen of which playing in group A, fifteen in group B. DFC won the championship after beating Cambuur Leeuwarden in a play-off. Two teams would be promoted: the winners of the championship play-off and the winners of the following promotion competition. This way, it turned out that Xerxes would be promoted to the Eerste Divisie after SC Cambuur.
The Dutch Tweede Divisie in the 1965–66 season was contested by 30 teams, divided in two groups. It would be the last season the Tweede Divisie would be divided in two. From next season onwards, all teams would participate in one league. This also meant that more teams than before were promoted to the Eerste Divisie. No teams had to relegate to amateur football.
The 2021–22 Eerste Divisie, known as Keuken Kampioen Divisie for sponsorship reasons, was the 66th season of Eerste Divisie since its establishment in 1956.
