The 1963 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships were contested in March 1963 at the Willis Casey Natatorium at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina at the 40th annual NCAA-sanctioned swim meet to determine the team and individual national champions of men's collegiate swimming and diving in the United States.

Contents

USC topped the team standings, finishing only four points ahead of challengers Yale, and claimed their second title (and second title in three years).

This was the final combined competition before the establishment of separate championships for the NCAA's University and College Divisions in 1964.

Peter William Vanderkaay is an American former competition swimmer who specialized in middle-distance freestyle events and is a four-time Olympic medalist. He was a member of the United States Olympic team in 2004, 2008, and 2012, and won bronze medals in the 200-meter freestyle at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 400-meter freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Jack Bauerle is the head coach of the University of Georgia (UGA) men's and women's swimming teams. In the spring of 2017, he finished his 39th year as a head coach for the UGA women's team and his 32nd year as men's head coach. Bauerle began coaching the women's team in 1979 and later became head coach for the men's team as well in 1983. He has three children John, Magill and Duke who have followed in Jack's footsteps.

Auburn Tigers swimming and diving

The Auburn Tigers swimming and diving program is Auburn University's representative in the sport of swimming and diving. The Tigers compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 and are members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The program started in 1932 when the pool was in the basement of the gymnasium. The program had to telegraph their timed results to other schools and compare as the pool was too small for competitions.

Eddie Reese

Edwin Charles Reese is an American former college and Olympic swimming coach, and a former college swimmer. Reese served as the head coach of the Texas Longhorns men's swimming and diving team that represents the University of Texas in Austin, Texas from 1978–2021. He previously served as the men's head coach for the United States' Olympic Swimming Team in 2004 and 2008, as well as an assistant coach at the 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2012 Summer Olympics.

Townley Haas American swimmer

Francis Townley Haas is an American competition swimmer who specializes in freestyle events. He is an Olympic gold medalist in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay from the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Haas competed collegiately for the University of Texas at Austin from 2015 to 2019 under head coach Eddie Reese where he was a 10-time NCAA Champion, a 17-time All-American, and a 3-time NCAA team champion. Zane Grothe is an American swimmer who specializes in distance and mid-distance freestyle events. He competed in the men's 400 meter freestyle event at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. He currently represents the DC Trident which is part of the International Swimming League. He broke the American and U.S. Open records in the 500 yard and 1650 yard freestyle events at the 2017 USA Winter National Championships.
