The 1964 season was the 81st season of national competitive association football in Australia.
The competition began on 26 September 1964 (excluding preliminary rounds). Twenty-six clubs had entered, but seven of those withdrew so there were just nineteen actual participants. The competition with the final two clubs George Cross and APIA Leichhardt qualifying for the Final. [1] George Cross won the match 3–2 after extra time, with one goal each from Archie Campbell and two own goals. [2]

The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals "away from home" wins. This is sometimes expressed by saying that away goals "count double" in the event of a tie, though in practice the team with more away goals is simply recorded as the victor, rather than having additional or 'double' goals added to their total.

Robert David Slater is an Australian former professional soccer player and sports commentator.
Harry Bath, born Alfred Henry Bath, also known by the nickname of "The Old Fox", was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach who was prominent and influential in the mid-20th century. A state and international representative who played 12 matches for Other Nationalities in the International Championship from 1949 to 1955, he played as a second-row and has been referred to as the best Australian rugby league player never to be picked for the Australian national team. Following his retirement, Bath coached in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership for two decades, also achieving selection as the Australian national team coach.

Chalmers captained the Rhodesian team during its unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the 1970 FIFA World Cup, and was its leading goalscorer.
