The 1966 World Ninepin Bowling Classic Championships was the sixth edition of the championships and was held in Bucharest, Romania, from 19 to 25 June 1966.

Contents

In the men's competition the title was won by Romania in the team competition, Petre Purge and Constantin Rădulescu (Romania) in the pair competition and by Horst Bräutigam (East Germany) in the individual event. In the women's competition the title was won by Romania in the team competition, Marie Mikulčíková and Vlasta Šindlerová (Czechoslovakia) in the pair competition and by Vlasta Šindlerová (Czechoslovakia) in the individual event.

The men's coxed pair competition at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich took place from 27 August to 2 September at the Olympic Regatta Course in Oberschleißheim. There were 21 boats from 21 nations, with each nation limited to a single boat in the event. The event was won by East German crew Wolfgang Gunkel, Jörg Lucke, and coxswain Klaus-Dieter Neubert; it was the first medal in the event for East Germany as a separate nation. Czechoslovakia (silver) and Romania (bronze) also won their first medals in the men's coxed pair.

The World Freshwater Angling Championships is a freshwater angling competition. Participating countries fish in teams of five with titles awarded to the team with the fewest points, the competition area is split into sections and the winner with the most weight will be awarded one point, two for second, three for third, at the end of the two days the team with the least points is the top team. Since its inception in 1954, the competition has been staged on rivers, canals and still waters from a selected host nation. Currently, the world championships have not been held outside of Europe.

The 1953 World Ninepin Bowling Classic Championships was the first edition of the championships and were held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, from 21–24 June 1953. Germany sent a united team composed of players from the GDR and the FRG.
