The 1970 European Espoirs Wrestling Championships was the first edition of European Espoirs Wrestling Championships. It was held from 17 April to 23 August 1970 in Huskvarna, Sweden. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Armen Nazaryan is an Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler who later represented Bulgaria. Nazaryan is a two-time Olympic Champion, a three-time World Champion, and a six-time European Champion. After Armenia regained independence in 1991, Nazaryan became the first Olympic gold medalist for the country. He was recognized by the FILA as the best wrestler of the year in 1998 and 2003. In 2007, Nazaryan was inducted as a member of the FILA Hall of Fame.

Armen Mkrtchyan is an Armenian freestyle wrestler. He is an Olympic silver medalist, World Championships medalist, and European Champion. In addition, he was also awarded the Master of Sport of the USSR, International Class title in 1991 and the Honored Master of Sports of Armenia title in 1996.

Mehmet Akif Pirim, is a former Turkish Olympic medalist sports wrestler in the featherweight class (62 kg), and currently a trainer. He won the gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Men's Greco-Roman wrestling and the bronze medal at the 1996 Olympics.

The European Wrestling Championships is the second oldest international wrestling competition of the modern world and the main wrestling championships in Europe. It predates World Wrestling Championships and other regional wrestling championships and is second only to the wrestling events at the Olympics. From its inception in 1898 till 1927 only Greco-Roman wrestling was contested. Since 1929 separate freestyle wrestling events were held as well. Since 1970 the two Olympic wrestling styles were contested together during the same unified events. Arayik Gevorgyan is a retired Armenian Freestyle wrestler. He is an Armenian Champion, European Champion, and three-time World Champion. Gevorgyan was awarded the Master of Sports of the USSR, International Class title in 1991 and the Honored Master of Sports of Armenia title in 1995.

Yvon Riemer is a retired Greco-Roman wrestler from France. He medalled four times at the World Championships, winning gold in 1995, and competed at the 1992 and 2000 Olympics as a welterweight, finishing in 5th and 15th place, respectively. He was also a three time French national champion.

Usama Aziz, also known as Sami Aziz, is a Swedish retired wrestler and mixed martial artist. He competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics and the 1996 Summer Olympics. He finished 5th in the 1992 European Championships and another 5th place in the 1995 World Championships, both in the style of Greco-Roman. His mixed martial arts career started in 2005. He competed in organisations such as Bellator MMA and Bodog Fight. He retired in 2013, following a victory over former UFC Lightweight Champion Jens Pulver.

Zekeriya Güçlü (1972–2010) was a Turkish freestyle wrestler competing in the 125 division. He won the gold medal at the 1997 World Wrestling Championships.

The World Junior Wrestling Championships (U20) is the main wrestling championships in the Junior age category, organised by United World Wrestling (UWW). This event was held twice in 1979 and 1980.
