Purdue University is a public research university in West Lafayette, Indiana, and the flagship campus of the Purdue University system. The university was founded in 1869 after Lafayette businessman John Purdue donated land and money to establish a college of science, technology, and agriculture in his name. The first classes were held on September 16, 1874, with six instructors and 39 students.

Ward Louis "Piggy" Lambert was an American basketball and baseball coach. He served as the head basketball coach at Purdue University during the 1916–17 season and from 1918 to 1946. Lambert was also the head baseball coach at Purdue in 1917, from 1919 to 1935, and from 1945 to 1946. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1960.

Mackey Arena is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. Part of the Purdue University campus, it is home to the university's basketball teams, and occasionally hosts home games for the volleyball and wrestling teams. The arena opened in 1967 as a replacement for Lambert Fieldhouse.

Frederick Appleton Schaus was an American basketball player, head coach and athletic director for the West Virginia University Mountaineers, player for the National Basketball Association's Fort Wayne Pistons and New York Knicks, general manager and head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, head coach of Purdue University basketball, and a member of the NCAA Basketball Committee. He was born in Newark, Ohio.

The 1979 National Invitation Tournament was the 1979 edition of the annual NCAA college basketball competition. Indiana University defeated their rival Purdue University 53–52 in the championship game. Purdue appeared in the 1980 NCAA Men's Final Four while Indiana won the national championship at the 1981 NCAA Men's Final Four.

The Purdue Boilermakers basketball team is a college basketball program that competes in NCAA Division I and is a member of the Big Ten Conference. Purdue basketball has the most Big Ten Championships with 23. The Boilermakers have reached two NCAA Tournament Final Fours. The 1931–32 team was retroactively named the national champion by the Helms Athletic Foundation and the Premo-Porretta Power Poll. Purdue has sent more than 30 players to the NBA, including two overall No. 1 picks in the NBA draft. Purdue shares a traditional rivalry with in-state foe Indiana University, and holds a 119–89 all-time series behind them.

Robert Alan "Bob" Ford is a retired American basketball player. He graduated from Evansville North High School in 1968 and led North High School to the 1967 Indiana high school basketball championship. He played on the 1968 Indiana High School All-Star basketball team against the Kentucky All-Stars. He played college basketball at Purdue University where he totaled 1,244 points and 648 rebounds, he was the team MVP during his junior season (1970–71) leading the Boilermakers to the NIT. He played briefly for the Memphis Tams of the ABA in the 1972-73 season, averaging 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds in nine games played; a mid-season trade with the Indiana Pacers failed to materialize and Ford was released. In spent the 1974-75 basketball season with the Lafayette Lasers of the short lived IBA. During his collegiate career, he was a 2x member of USA Basketball (National) teams, the Silver Medal-winning 1970 World University Games squad and the 1971 Pan-Am Games team. Currently, Bob Ford is a full-time telecaster for Purdue Boilermaker men's basketball games.

The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons men's basketball team represents the newly created Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW) and formerly represented the now defunct Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). Purdue Fort Wayne has competed in the Summit League since the 2007–08 season. The team has never played in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. The Mastodons are coached by Jon Coffman and play their home games at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center and the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons, formerly known as the IPFW Mastodons and Fort Wayne Mastodons, are the athletic teams of Purdue University Fort Wayne. The Mastodons compete as a NCAA Division I school in the Summit League for most sports and in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association for men's volleyball. Colorado State Rams mens basketball

The Colorado State Rams men's basketball team represents Colorado State University, located in Fort Collins, in the U.S. state of Colorado, in NCAA Division I basketball competition. They play their home games at the Moby Arena and are members of the Mountain West Conference. They are led by head coach Niko Medved who was hired to replace interim head coach Jase Herl after a 2017–18 season that saw both regular head coach Larry Eustachy and interim head coach Steve Barnes placed on administrative leave due to issues regarding their treatment of players. Becky Hammon, assistant coach of the San Antonio Spurs, was originally the top candidate to replace Jase Herl as the head coach.

2007–08 Purdue Boilermakers mens basketball team

The 2007–08 Purdue Boilermakers men's basketball team represented Purdue University. The head coach was Matt Painter, then in his 3rd season with the Boilers. The Boilers did well at home, going 9-0 in the Big Ten and losing only a single home game overall (16-1). Purdue finished second in the Big Ten with a 15–3 record. They lost to Illinois in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament despite having a #2 seed. The Boilers accepted a bid to the NCAA Tournament where they made it to the second round before losing to Xavier, 78–85.

The 1970-71 Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team represented Duke University in the 1970-71 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The head coach was Bucky Waters and the team finished the season with an overall record of 20-10 and did not qualify for the NCAA tournament.

The 2005–06 Purdue Boilermakers men's basketball team represented Purdue University during the 2005-06 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Matt Painter, the current head coach, began his first year at Purdue. On February 11 the Boilermakers upset #22 Michigan at Mackey Arena, which was their first win over a ranked team since beating #19 Wisconsin in January 2004. Purdue finished 9–19 overall and 3–15 in the Big Ten. Although they finished in last place in the Big Ten, they had improved on their overall record from the previous year by two games. The Boilermakers would win at least 16 games per season in all of their following seasons.

Linc Mitchel Darner is an American basketball coach and the current men's basketball coach of the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay Phoenix. Darner previously spent nine seasons as the head coach at DII Florida Southern College and four seasons at Saint Joseph's College (Indiana). In 2015, Darner's Florida Southern Moccasins finished 36-1 and won the NCAA Division II National Championship. Darner was named the 2015 NABC UPS DII National Coach of the Year.

1993–94 NCAA Division I mens basketball season

The 1993–94 NCAA Division I men's basketball season concluded in the 64-team 1994 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament whose finals were held at the Charlotte Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Arkansas Razorbacks earned their first national championship by defeating the Duke Blue Devils 76–72 on April 4, 1994. They were coached by Nolan Richardson and the NCAA Basketball Tournament Most Outstanding Player was Arkansas' Corliss Williamson.
