In the 1971 American Soccer League II, the New York Greeks were the champions. After the season, Virginia Capitol moved to Washington, and Syracuse folded. [2]

He won two National Challenge Cup and one American Soccer League title as a player as well as two professional championships as a coach. Schellscheidt is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

The D2 Pro League was the second tier of the American and Canadian soccer pyramids below Major League Soccer.
