Summary

After the first Catalan women's football league in 1971, [1] the Francoist organisation Educación y Descanso  [ es ] took over to organise Catalan tournaments in 1972, in which Penya Femenina Barcelona did not participate. [2] These tournaments were cancelled in March 1973, [3] with Educación y Descanso starting the second edition of its spring season (copa primavera) shortly thereafter, in April 1973, with Barcelona taking part. [4]

Barcelona had still played in 1972, with Pubill being called up to the representative Spanish team in October 1972. [5]

Ahead of the 1973 season, Barcelona advertised trials for the squad, organised by Nuri, in Mundo Deportivo from at least January 1973. [6]

A great surprise came on matchday 6 of the spring season when Sabadell, who had lost the previous five games and were bottom of the league, defeated Barcelona 3–0. Barcelona had been unbeaten at the top of the league; [7] after matchday 7, the result was annulled and the points were awarded to Barcelona, with Sabadell penalised for having fielded multiple unregistered players in the match. [8]

Two of the games hosted by Industria del Taxi, against Barcelona and Espanyol, had to be postponed for Taxi's pitch to be disinfected after hosting a horse show. [9] These were rescheduled after the last natural matchday; at the end of the spring season, Barcelona and Espanyol were both tied in first place on 21 points, and so the results of both teams' yet-to-be-played matches against Taxi would decide the victor. [9] Barcelona won the league. [10]

The FC Barcelona women's team played its first organised games between 1970 and 1972. For the first match, a win by penalties on 25 December 1970, the team was known as Selecció Ciutat de Barcelona. In February 1971, the team changed its name to Peña Femenina Barcelonista. In a Spanish-language poster for the Pernod Cup in March 1971, the team was advertised as C. de F. Barcelona. In match reports from the league, they were called Barcelona.

Barcelona played in the first national women's football league in Spain in 1974, though not much of Spain was represented. The league was controlled by Educación y Descanso, and the prize was the Radio Miramar Trophy; the same organisation had held a tournament to compete for a Radio Miramar-sponsored trophy in 1972, and so the 1974 league – the Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol Femenino – was sometimes referred to as the II Trofeo Radio Miramar. The league was again played in two splits; a change was that each half was played for 35 minutes, rather than the 30 minutes they previously were in women's football.
