Contents

The inaugural race had an unusually close finish for a trans ocean race of this era where boats varied so much. Under 8 minutes separated Mike Birch on his trimaran and Michel Malinovski, as can be seen in vintage footage. [2]

Alex Pella made history once again, on the 26th of January 2017, when he broke, with the rest of the team, the absolute round-the-world speed sailing record, known as the Jules Verne Trophy., aboard the sophisticated maxi-multihull IDEC 3. They circumnavigated the planet in 40 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds.

Alain Gautier is a French professional offshore sailor. He is best known for winning the 1992–1993 Vendée Globe. He currently heads Lanic Sport Development which was founded in 1989, specializing in the preparation of and assistance to offshore racing teams including those of Ellen MacArthur in 1998 and Isabelle Joschke in 2019. He headed with Bertrand Pacé the Aleph challenge for the 34th America's Cup in 2013 but the team never got the funding required. It competed in the America's Cup World Series on supplied AC45 catamarans before withdrawing.

He competed 1989–1990 Vendée Globe where he was rescued by Loick Peyron he then went on to finish 3rd in the 1992–1993 Vendée Globe which is the pinnacle solo round the world race. He is one of the most successful sailors with three Figaro wins to his credit, winner of the Ostar, the Route du Rhum, the Route of Discovery, the record of the Atlantic. His early experienced was a crew for Eric Tabarly onboard Pen Duick VI for the 1977–1978 Whitbread Round the World Race. Since 2009 he has embarked on his boat Fleur Australe on an expeditions aimed at raising public awareness of the protection of the oceans.

The Route du Rhum is a single person transatlantic race the 2022 race was the 12th edition and had six classes with 138 boats taking part. The events status as a qualification for event for the Vendee Globe lead to the largest most competitive fleet of IMOCA 60 class yachts gathered todate. In his first attempt at the race Charles Caudrelier took line honours in a new race record time on the Maxi Multihull Edmond de Rothschild in six days, 19 hours and 47 minutes.

The Route du Rhum is a single person transatlantic race the 2018 race was the 11th edition and had six classes with 123 boats taking part.
