The 1980 Fuji Long Distance Series was the fourth season of this series, with all races being held at the Fuji International Speedway. [1]

Contents

It was contested by Group 5 silhouettes and touring cars; Group 6 sportscars were allowed to start races without scoring points.

Fuji Speedway Motorsport track in Japan

Fuji Speedway is a motorsport race track standing in the foothills of Mount Fuji, in Oyama, Suntō District, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It was built in the early 1960s. In the 1980s, Fuji Speedway was used for the FIA World Sportscar Championship and national racing. Originally managed by Mitsubishi Estate Co., Fuji Speedway was acquired by Toyota Motor Corporation in 2000. The circuit hosted the Formula One Japanese Grand Prix in 2007 after an absence of nearly 30 years, replacing the Suzuka Circuit owned by Honda. After Fuji Speedway hosted the 2008 race, the Japanese Grand Prix returned to Suzuka for races from 2009 onward. The Super GT Fuji 500 km race is held at the racetrack on Golden Week.

Johnny Herbert British racing driver

John Paul "Johnny" Herbert is a former British racing driver and current television announcer for Sky Sports F1. He raced in Formula One from 1989 to 2000, for seven different teams, winning three races and placing 4th in the 1995 World Drivers' Championship. He also raced sports cars, winning the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1991 driving a Mazda 787B.

Group C

Group C was a category of motorsport, introduced by the FIA in 1982 and continuing until 1993. Group C applied to sports car racing, with Group A for touring cars and Group B for GTs.

Japan Le Mans Challenge Japanese automobile race

The Japan Le Mans Challenge was an endurance sportscar series based in Japan built around the 24 Hours of Le Mans that began in 2006. It was run by the Sports Car Endurance Race Operation (SERO) sanctioning body and ran under the rules laid out by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO). It is the first endurance sportscar series in Japan since the demise of the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship in 1992, although the ACO had run a single endurance race since then, the 1999 Le Mans Fuji 1000 km. The series was cancelled in 2007 following two poor seasons.

Ronnie Quintarelli is an Italian racecar driver, currently competes at Super GT. He holds the all-time record for the most drivers' championship titles (4), for the most drivers' championship title won by a non-Japanese driver (4) and the most drivers' championship won in GT500 class (4) of Super GT.

The Fuji Grand Champion Series (富士グランドチャンピオンレース) ran from 1971 to 1989. It was a drivers' championship in Japan and was originally for 2 litre Group B6 cars. The series was started in 1971, and all races were held at the Fuji Speedway circuit.

Kris Nissen Danish racing driver

Nils-Kristian "Kris" Nissen is a retired Danish auto racing driver. For several years he was Volkswagen's motorsport director. Since the summer of 2013 he has had a career change and is currently owner and temporary manager of a Danish campingsite called Enderupskov in Southern Jutland.

6 Hours of Fuji

The 6 Hours of Fuji is a sports car race held at Fuji Speedway in Oyama, Shizuoka, Japan. The race was held for the first time in 1967, and in 1977 became part of the new Fuji Long Distance Series. In 1982 a second 1000 km race known as WEC in Japan was run as a round of the World Sportscar Championship. The All Japan Sports Prototype Championship was formed in 1983, and since then co-sanctioned this event. The World Championship left after 1988, but the JSPC carried on both races until 1992. The race was revived in 1999 as an attempt to gauge interest in an Asian Le Mans Series; the series never materialized. The race was revived again as a part of the short-lived Japan Le Mans Challenge in 2007. The race returned again as part of the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship season, but changed to a 6-hour race, with no distance limit.

The 2012 Autobacs Super GT Series was the twentieth season of the Japan Automobile Federation Super GT Championship including the All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC) era and the eighth season as the Super GT series. It also marked the thirtieth season of a JAF-sanctioned sports car racing championship dating back to the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship. It was a series for Grand Touring cars divided into 2 classes: GT500 and GT300. The season began on April 1 and ended on November 18, 2012 after 8 regular races and a final special race.

The 1992 All Japan Sports Prototype Car Endurance Championship was the tenth and final season of the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship, which would be replaced by the All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship, as sportscar racing in the early 1990s changed drastically with the decline of prototypes. The 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia was the second season of SRO Motorsports Group and Team Asia One GT Management's Blancpain GT Series Asia, an auto racing series for grand tourer cars in Asia. The races were contested with GT3-spec and GT4-spec cars. The season began on 14 April at Sepang and ended on 14 October at Ningbo.
