The 1982 Lilian Cup was the 1st season of the competition. The four top placed teams for the previous season took part in the competition.
The Lililan Cup, which was also known as The League Cup was an Israeli men's football competition open to the top 4 clubs in Liga Leumit between 1981–82 and 1988–89. The competition was contested at the start of each football season. It was cancelled after the 1989 tournament.
The 1981–82 Liga Leumit season saw Hapoel Kfar Saba win their first, and to date only title. Oded Machnes of runners-up Maccabi Netanya was the league's top scorer with 26 goals. Hapoel Rishon LeZion, Beitar Tel Aviv and Hapoel Petah Tikva were all relegated.
The competition was held in two stages. First, the four teams played a round-robin tournament, after which the two top teams played for the cup, while the bottom teams played for the third place. The competition was held between 4 September and 15 September 1982. This was the first league competition in Israel to award three points for a victory. [1]
The competition was won by Maccabi Netanya, who had beaten Hapoel Be'er Sheva 3–1 in the final.
Maccabi Netanya F.C. is an Israeli football club based in Netanya. Established in 1934, the club was a founding member of the Israeli League in 1949. After winning their first championship in 1971, the club's golden period lasted until the late 1980s, including three more league titles and a double in 1978.
Hapoel Beer-Sheva Football Club is an Israeli football club from the city of Be'er Sheva, that competes in the Israeli Premier League. The club was established in 1949, and since 2007 it has been run by businesswoman Alona Barkat, who serves as the club's owner. The club also includes youth teams, boys and children, and a football school.
