Gregg Clark is a field hockey player from South Africa, who was a member of the national squad that finished tenth at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He was also present at the Atlanta Games in 1996. The midfielder played for Durban, and a provincial team called KwaZulu Natal Raiders. He is also the most capped South African national hockey player with 250 caps and 42 goals.
The Pakistan national field hockey team represents Pakistan in international field hockey since its first match in 1948. It is administered by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), the governing body for hockey in Pakistan. Once the IFWHA merged with its counterpart on the men's side, the United States' first appearance at an FIH-sanctioned tournament was the 1983 Women's Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the Americans ended up in sixth place. They have won bronze at the Los Angeles 1984 Summer Olympics and bronze at the 1994 World Cup.
The 1975 Hockey World Cup was the third edition of the Hockey World Cup men's field hockey tournament. It was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In the final, India defeated Pakistan from a goal difference of 2–1. Surjit Singh scored the first crucial goal followed with the winner from Ashok Kumar. It was the second World Cup Final appearance for both the nations; Pakistan was the winner of the inaugural World Cup in 1971, and India, the runner-up of 1973 edition. Germany defeated hosts, Malaysia, with a goal difference of 4–0 for third place.

Because of a new COVID-19 variant, the tournament was put on hold on 26 November 2021 and later postponed, with the option to be hosted by South Africa. On 10 January 2022 it was announced the tournament will take place from 2 to 13 April 2022 at the original venue.
