The Horizon League is a collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. Headquartered in Indianapolis, the league's eleven member schools are located in and near the Great Lakes region and in part of the Southern United States.
Jerold Taylor "Jay" Wright Jr. is a former American college basketball coach. He served as the head coach of Villanova University from 2001 until 2022. Wright led the Villanova Wildcats to six Big East Conference championships and 16 NCAA tournament appearances in 21 seasons as head coach. Under Wright, Villanova reached four Final Fours and won two national championships in 2016 and 2018.
The 1987 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 64 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 12, 1987, and ended with the championship game on March 30 in New Orleans, Louisiana. A total of 63 games were played.
The UMBC Retrievers are the athletic teams that represent the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, located in Catonsville, Maryland, in intercollegiate athletics as a member of the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), primarily competing in the America East Conference since the 2003–04 academic year. The Retrievers previously competed in the Northeast Conference (NEC) from 1998–99 to 2002–03; and in the Big South Conference from 1992–93 to 1997–98; while they also competed in the Mason–Dixon Conference at the NCAA Division II ranks: the first variation of it from 1972–73 to 1977–78; and the second variation from 1983–84 to 1987–88.
The Northeastern Huskies are the athletic teams representing Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. They compete in thirteen varsity team sports: men's and women's hockey ; men's baseball, men's and women's basketball, women's field hockey and volleyball, swimming, and men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's rowing, track and cross-country.
The Albany Great Danes men's basketball team is the basketball team that represent the University at Albany, State University of New York in Albany, New York. The school's team currently competes in the America East Conference and plays its home games at SEFCU Arena. The team played in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 2006, 2007, 2013, 2014, and 2015. They also made the CIT in 2016 and 2017, and are currently coached by Dwayne Killings.
The 2005 America East men's basketball tournament was held from March 4–6 at the Binghamton University Events Center. The final was held on March 12, at Patrick Gym on the campus of the University of Vermont. Vermont gained its third consecutive berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Northeastern. Vermont was given the 13th seed in the Austin Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the second round to Michigan State 72–61, after upsetting #4 Syracuse 60–57 in overtime. Both Boston University and Northeastern gained a bid to the NIT and lost in the first round to Georgetown and Memphis respectively.
The 2002 America East men's basketball tournament was hosted by the Northeastern Huskies at Matthews Arena. The final was held at Case Gym on the campus of Boston University. Boston University gained its fifth America East Championship and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Maine. BU was given the 16th seed in the West Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Cincinnati 90–52.
The 2000 America East men's basketball tournament was hosted by the Delaware Blue Hens at Bob Carpenter Center. The final was held at Hofstra Arena on the campus of Hofstra University. Hofstra gained its first America East Conference Championships and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Delaware. Hofstra was given the 14th seed in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Oklahoma State 86–66. Delaware gained a bid to the NIT and lost in the first round to Villanova 72–63.
The 1995 North Atlantic Conference men's basketball tournament was hosted by the higher seeds in head-to-head matchups. The final was held at Daskalakis Athletic Center on the campus of Drexel University. Drexel gained its second consecutive America East Conference Championship and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Boston University. Drexel was given the 13th seed in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Oklahoma State 73–49.
The 1994 North Atlantic Conference men's basketball tournament was hosted by the higher seeds in head-to-head matchups. The final was held at Daskalakis Athletic Center on the campus of Drexel University. Drexel gained its first overall America East Conference Championship and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Maine. Drexel was given the 14th seed in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Temple 61–39.

Boston University was given the 15th seed in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Duke 85–69. Siena College gained a bid to the NIT and lost in the first round to Boston College 73–65.

Northeastern gained its third overall America East Conference Championship and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Canisius College. Northeastern was given the 11th seed in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round against Virginia Commonwealth 70–69.
The 1980 ECAC North men's basketball tournament was hosted by the higher seeds in head-to-head matchups. It was the inaugural tournament ever held for the ECAC North. The final was held at The Hart Center on the campus at the College of Holy Cross. Holy Cross gained their first and only America East Conference Championship in the first ever tournament as well as an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Boston University. Holy Cross was given the 11th seed in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Maryland 84–78. Boston University gained a bid to the NIT and lost in the first round to Boston College 95–74.
The Stony Brook Seawolves baseball team represents Stony Brook University in NCAA Division I men's college baseball. Stony Brook currently competes in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) and plays its home games on Joe Nathan Field. Matt Senk has coached the team since the beginning of the 1991 season. The team has won the America East tournament six times in 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2019. In 2011, the Seawolves claimed their first America East regular season championship. Stony Brook has participated in the NCAA tournament on six separate occasions, winning its first game in 2010.
