The qualifying rounds for the 1995 US Open were played in late August 1995 at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York City, United States.
This event marks the only participation of Marcelo Ríos (who eventually became world No. 1 in singles in 1998) at a doubles competition of any Grand Slam tournament. [1] Ríos teamed up with Sjeng Schalken, losing in the final round against Roger Smith and Paul Wekesa. The pair would also win an ATP tournament in Amsterdam at the same year, which would be the only title of Ríos in his entire doubles career. [2]

James Spencer "Jim" Courier is an American former world No. 1 tennis player. He won four major singles titles, two at the French Open and two at the Australian Open. He was the youngest man to reach the singles finals of all four majors, at the age of 22 years and 11 months. He also won five Masters titles. Since 2005 he has worked as a tennis commentator, notably for the host broadcaster of the Australian Open, Nine, and as an analyst for Tennis Channel and Prime Video Sport.

Pete Sampras defeated Andre Agassi in the final, 6–3, 6–4, 5–7, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2002 US Open. It was his record-extending 14th major title. The final was also a rematch of the 1990 and 1995 US Open finals, where Sampras won his first and seventh major titles respectively. It was Sampras' last professional appearance, though he did not officially declare his retirement until 2003. Sampras became the only man in the Open Era to win the final major he played.

The 1993 Volvo International was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Connecticut, United States and was part of the Championship Series of the 1993 ATP Tour. The tournament ran from August 16 through August 23, 1993. Kelly Jones and Rick Leach were the defending champions but only Jones competed that year with Paul Annacone. Annacone and Jones lost in the semifinals to Cyril Suk and Daniel Vacek. Suk and Vacek won in the final 7–5, 6–4 against Steve DeVries and David Macpherson.
